Rebuild 3rz or??

I have 315K on my 99' 3rz...It has a slight miss so it idles a bit high and rough, but otherwise runs great 95% of time. Still gets 19MPG on 35s and 529s...I either want to rebuild the current motor and maybe add some more kick to it if possible, or buy a JDM motor. Truck is my daily/weekend warrior. What are your thoughts? Pros and cons of each?

Unfortunately I think you need to junk it and sell me the bed, but only if the dogs come with it. Nice taco man.

 

I'd start slow and see if you really do need an all new engine. It sounds like you've possibly got a head that is cracked between the valve seats and/or burnt exhaust valves that are allowing the engine to suck some air at idle. Start by checking your valve lash. If there is no clearance, then the head is likey cracked and the valve seat has sunk into the head Pulling the head is an afternoon project and a shop can weld it up and rebuild it for less than $500.
