1st Gen owner for just a couple months now. Been throwing an idle air control valve error code that comes and goes. Got a couple throttle body gaskets (previous owner installed a spacer) and a few other related parts on order to tackle this weekend, but I have no idea what normal idle speed is for this truck. Would anybody mind glancing at theirs at a red light? Mine doesn't seem to go lower than 1200 RPM.

More info needed: what engine, what transmission, AC on/off, cold/hot? There are many variables to idle speed.

You're right. 3.4L V6. Manual Transmission. It's 1250 with the AC on, about 1150 with it off. I was giving the average.

That's when cold though. Doesn't seem to be a change when hot though. Stays high.

Thank you. Damn, something's up then. I hope it's just these brittle gaskets.

    must be a vacuum leak

the ECM will constantly "readjust" the idle for you so it will make it idle at 650-750 (depending on engine) no matter what you do to change it. I tried, I tried to raise the idle to smooth it out but after a few miles it would readjust to 650 again. the factory settings should just be left alone and not be touched. if it has been messed with then unscrew it until it no longer touches, then screw in until it touches then turn it 3/4 to 1 full turn, just enough to crack the butterfly so it can idle. beyond that the ECM will adjust it for you.

when everything is working normally, at cold startup it idles at around 1200 rpm then when it has warmed up it drops to 650-700 rpm

Will do, thanks for the directions.

After some more research, I'm now realizing that this K&N air intake the previous owner installed could be causing all kinds of problems. The MAF sensor is new though... so I don't know. Was hoping not to have a can of worms for lunch all weekend.
