...^^^... You are correct sir ... from my experiences ... very few people start out or do much rotary wing in the civilian world (especially turbines) due to prohibitive costs.

I was talking to a kid this weekend and we ran some quick numbers to get started from zero and get enough hours to work for an oil rig company.

It came out to over $200,000 in costs to get to a point where you could get hired with a big oil company and our numbers and time estimates were probably low.

I love rotary wing ... but can't afford the air time ... next best thing is a "rotary biplane" ... lol

I'm sure it's not much to all you guys already with careers in aviation and with all their certs and ratings but I passed my written FAA private pilot airman knowledge test today with an 87%. Getting a first class medical tomorrow and then going to start my flight training in the coming weeks, going for my private pilots license and beyond since I'm majoring in a BS in Aviation Technology - Professional Piloting. Super excited to learn to fly in Alaska!

Getting started with a first class, smart! Better to do that than spend tons of money on training to find you can't hold anything above a 3rd class

Figured I'd start with the one that lets me do the most! Plus like you said I'll need to once I try to anything more, especially once I go for my ATP

Yeah you'd hate to have tens of thousands of dollars invested in flight training to find out you can't become an airline pilot (or whatever you're trying to become) because you can't hold a higher medical

I caught that on the news.

Did you note that it looked as if the prop Appeared to have rotational damage in the post crash pics?

Looked like a Cherokee Six to me. Pretty sure those are usually fuel injected. I could be wrong though

I can't tell the type on my phone and haven't read ntsb if it's even there yet.

You are correct with FI on the 6. A few very early 260s had it but not sure of the count.

A buddy had one that we flew together in several times. His was a 260, FI, tho. I like the aircraft.
