I use a MaxCoupler on my teardrop.

Anytime I leave the trailer parked, I pull out the MC, and put in the locking pin. It is possible to defeat it, but I think it keeps the honest people honest.

I will be adding handles to activate the parking brakes on the trailer. The handles will be in the tongue box (locked), so that should act as a pretty serious theft deterrent.

Mine uses a Treg hitch and the only way to bypass it is to completely disassemble the hitch off of the trailer frame which will require a grinder since they are welded on.

    IMG_3867.jpg

The trailer is equipped with electric disc brakes with a hidden lock out that locks the brakes making it a ball ache for whoever tries to drag it away

Sometimes I wish I was a mega lottery winner so I could get something like this and move your super secure trailers around to screw with you guys.

I thoughthink long and hard about building a trailer. I still might some day most likely out of the box on my truck.... but other than two hdj81 I know of locally that pull m101 trailers everyone who's tried either wrecks the trailer or needs to constantly winch. Best thing about BC years of back country to explore. Worst part every single trail is super tight and changes all the time.. Which I'm sure is also the case in other parts where you guys are. I think if I had kids I might change my mind

My big thing is I work in an office and my 4Runner is my DD. I'd rather have a trailer I can leave packed up and just hook it up on a friday and head out of town.

I'm hoping to be close enough to work that I can bike in the near future. Or potentially pick up a motorcycle but not while I'm living in LA. It's just asking to get killed.

Pretty much... even in Vancouver it's suicide. Commuting sucks but I'm so glad I moved out of the city years ago... and even happier I found a diesel golf.... gotta love 800+km per tank

The Oz is too big to fit in the bed? Do you mean packed? If so, do you have a pic of it packed?

How do you like the disc brakes on your trailer? My trailer has drum brakes - I have considered upgrading to discs, but the drums lock up easy enough, so it seems I have enough braking power.

If I didn't live in California I'd consider a trailer as it would be sweet to have all your stuff self contained and ready to go. But our towing speed limit is 55mph and that can really add up time wise when traveling far distances.

From their website for the RV-4 model:
    • Packed size: 6’6” (l) x 1’1" (w) x 5" (h)
    • Setup Size: 7’10” (w) x 7’10” (d) x 6’2” (h) + 6’6” Awning
    • Weight: 48lbs
    • Sleeps: 4 - 5
The larger RV-5 weighs 7lbs more but effectively packs into the same size bag. Figure that most would want to add some of the accessory panels and the whole works get to be fairly heavy and with the unchangeable length it really is a cumbersome package to find a place to fit when traveling.

They work fine and for a heavier trailer I'd recommend them but if the drums are doing the job for you I'd save the loot and put that money elsewhere.

Yes, packed it is just a bit too long for the bed (until I had bed bars I would just throw it on top of stuff in the bed). Keep in mind that I have the small oztent, it packs into a bag 5'2" long. The big Oztents, like the RV-5, pack up to 6'6". I will try and get a photo of it tonight.

If you're going to be in Flagstaff for the expo I am going to try and swing by on the 14th, you are welcome to check it out.

Towing speed limit? Even for light passenger vehicles? Is that a real thing?

California seems nice but sometimes I hear the strangest rules. Not sure if I could handle living there.
