I used to drive around the Olympic Peninsula on 101 back in the early 80's with my FJ55 every chance I had. Delay of more than 5 vehicles is prohibited by law now get the hell out of my way RV's! When I got transferred to Alameda took it all the way down. Hit hwy 17 in Frisco at evening rush hour and about crapped my britches sitting there looking at all that traffic flying by after spending so much time with the gentle pace of 101.

I think it has something to do with the LSD thing :p Sitting there side by side in the well deck. When they dropped the gate and they took off wasn't much different than watching a Hornet from a cat launch. They both dip and you kind of hold your breathe hoping they come back up. Sounds like you've seen a few too.

It is true we received notification today at work about it. You receive an email from someone you know that says they want to share a google document with you. Which is pretty common and this looks like any of the other ones. They still don't know what all the payload does but it at a minimum gives access to the hacker your inbox and documents. And many people keep passwords in google docs.

Oh ya, I know how it works, on a Whidbey Island Class. But I never saw how you guys did it. The Whidbey Island class is bigger. What did y'all do, grease the Bulkheads in the well deck with KY? How many did you guys carry? We carried 4.
Are you talking about AAVs, or LCACs?

Old pic of a Whidbey Island class embarking an LCAC.
It is hard to say, but this could very well be the Germantown. Notice the Liberty boat on the Starboard side And the ready life boat and the Captains Gig double stacked on the Port side. I don't know when they stopped with that configuration, but they don't do that anymore.
Humvees on the deck. I predate the Humvee.:(
    Not really.:oldglory:

I used to remember the mock invasions with AAV's "Amtracks " with LSD's just off shore and with F4's and Cobras doing mock close air support . All this happening near San Onofre beach and the I-5 corridor

The looks of the general public in their cars as Marines storm the beach with close air support buzzing the fwy

I also got to participate in a CAX in 1982 called Gallant Eagle 82 . This was a mock military invasion in the SOCAL desert

We were the "lucky" ones and got to play with the experimental boats and crafts. Well we didn't those that owned them did. We even went up the Savannah River one year as far as we could until we got stuck in the mud. Had to wait for low tide at the bridge in Savannah Ga. to make it under it and a tractor trailer crashed on the bridge trying to look at us. Likely was a strange sight on the river there LOL. Carried Army Engineers for that one and no marines. And sometimes carried a mix of Army Rangers, Marine Recon and a SEAL team or two. And of course standard exercises with the usual suspects :D The smaller LCAC's weren't that small they had washer and dryers on board. And wanted to use our potable water. I don't think so!
