KJW, The leaf springs include a silencer pad to make them quiet. It will not last forever. Please see the attached file for additional information on a separate TSB for leaf spring silencer pad TSB.

    06yoter,

I stopped by my Toyota dealership in San Diego yesterday to see if they would do the service bulletin for me, the answer is YES and NO. YES they will do it for a few hundred dollars! NO, it is not covered because it is past three years from original purchase date! Even though mileage is 33k it's still not covered! Warranty is 3 years or 36k miles WHICHEVER COMES FIRST! doesn't motivate me though to buy a Hyundai with their ten year warranty!

Thanks Crom, I'm going to take the truck to the dealer now and see if they will schedule the spring fix. It's lifted so anyone want to take bets on the answer I get?

I'm also going to ask them to document there answer on there letterhead if they refuse to do the work.
Got any ideas on who you could go to in Toyota with a documented refusal of a TSB by a dealer?

    KJW,

If your truck is indeed bottoming out then I don't think the lift will be an issue at all. Take it to them with 800lbs of concrete in the bed of the truck like so many others have done.

One thing to understand is the Dealer has a responsibility to evaluate each customers claim before doing the work. Most of the time things okay. Be polite, but be firm. You just can't demand they do the work, because that will most likely get you nowhere.

    Good luck to you!

    A few.
It wouldn't be covered under Hyundai's 10/100 warranty either because that's a powertrain warranty.

I'm taking my 2010 DC short bed in tomorrow to local dealer to get TSB done. I loaded my truck 2 weeks ago with about 450 lbs of bricks and drove over a small speed bump in our neighborhood and sure enough it bottomed out. Called the service dept (not even at the dealer where I bought the truck) and told them what I was experiencing and pointed them to the TSB. Asked if needed to bring it in for them to see it. Said they'd look up the TSB and call back. They called back and said they'd do the work...they ordered the parts, came in a few days ago, appointment for tomorrow morn. Fortunately I didn't have any problems...wanted to get the bigger leaf spring pack as I'll occasionally be using it as a real truck.

Crom This is interesting...They jumped right on it and have the parts in stock I'm taking it in tomorrow to be done but....I just realized that the way the tsb is written adding new shocks to the front is part of the work ....this can't be done as I put SAWs in there 2 years ago. I just called them and advised them not to work on the front end of the truck and they had no problem with that. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this happening?

FishErTaco, That's good to hear that your truck will have the TSB done!

KJW, Glad to hear they're going to fix yours up too. Win! Win!

The TSB document specifies that 2005-2008 non-TRD Tacoma trucks will get updated shocks and leaf pack. The 2005-2008 TRD models should not recieve new shocks, but will receive the stiffer 4-leaf pack.

It also states that the 2009-2010 TRD and non-TRD model Tacoma's will not receive new shocks because of a change in production, the new models already have upgraded shocks and they would only get the stiffer 4-leaf pack.

If you search TW, you fill find about 20-dozen threads about the rear leaf spring TSB and at least twice as many stories contained therein.

Give it a try, you'll be busy reading for hours.

Fox Toyota of Clinton, TN just told me they would order the parts and get back with me. Gary Coleman is the Service Manager there and has been extremely polite and helpful. I'll update when I hear back.

They called me back and I am scheduled for next week! This is a great feeling!

Scheduled for MONDAY! Thanks guys. For me to get my dealer to agree to do this TSB I had to actually print out the TSB and show up at the service center. Over the phone they were just blowing me off. I'll report how the TSB goes after I get the truck back.

 for the best and no more dealer headaches!

I contacted Toyota and got the nod for the leaf change out
called the dealer who attempted a bit of BS on me but since I had the TSB in hand they relented and agreed to order the new leafs for my 2010 4X4 SR5 w/long bed.

As I read the details in the TSB I noticed that in the back of the document where the alignment procedures are, there was no reference to my specific VDS which is "MU4FN" though it is listed on the 1st page of the TSB.

    Called back Toyota about this
they could not explain why my VDS was not included in the alignment section

Has anyone else come across this same problem?

I went into my dealer to buy new wipers. I never buy OEM wipers but the dealer sent me a coupon saying a new set was 12.95 a pair. I thought hey, what the heck I'll go buy the OEM ones..... not.... it was a typo the bastards........I could have made a stink but I just bent over and paid double for the set.

Anyways, while there I asked about the TSB and they knew all about it and have no problem at all doing it BUT it needs to be done before my 36K warranty is up if I want it done. He said it takes 2 weeks for them to get the parts.

I asked what he thought about me buying a 100K warranty. He looked from side to side to see if anyone was looking and he said "The extended warranty is worth it for the years but not for the miles. Meaning if you drive little miles and will have the truck 7 years, he would do it. I drive 30K a year and he said its not worth it for me and to save my money.

if my warranty is 50K do I still have to get it done before 36K? Also, I haven't been loaded down so I'm sure I haven't bottomed out, but I will be towing a boat and jet skis this summer and want to get it done just in case. What should I tell the dealer to get this done?! Thanks guys
