Good morning Tim. I meant to tell you the other day with how impressed with your truck I was. At our initial meeting I was preoccupied and sadly could not take the time to give it a good look. I really wish that day I could have taken the time to give all the trucks that were there a good going over because you never know just what kinda ideas you may come up with. Your truck was a great find with all the rt stuff having been done. In a way I wish I could have found a truck like yours to start off with as it would have eliminated quite a bit of work. On the other hand the journey I have had to take thus far has been frustrating, fun, and educational. Great truck!

 

Thanks. I have more plans for it. I'd really like to set it up for serious off-roading but it's also my daily driver so I have to keep it somewhat practical. In the mean time I'll just stick to the Advanced Bunny Trail.

I'm vacillating on whether or not to get the supercharger. I'm personal friends with Gadget of URD fame and he said he could set me up. The thing is though, do I really want to do a $6000 mod? The truck already does well enough for me performance-wise and Six Large is a lot to spend on what will basically just be bragging rights. (Look at me! I have a Supercharger! I'm a Bad-Ass!)

Right now on the agenda are leather seats with bun warmers and a set of air horns (and compressor, and tank, and etc.)

 

Also you got to remember you will be premium now if you do! That is one of the main factors Im not going SC, besides worrying about heating up on the trail if Im going slow.

 

I in no way want to sound like I think I know alot here, however, I would do quite a bit of looking and research before I made the investment in a SC. I have worked with them a little having a 6-71 on my Camaro and I will tell you they create quite a bit of heat. They ev fast and create great torque however in a slow moving trail senario with limited air movement I would be affraid of overheating unless the SC's for these engines works differently. @TacoFMS and I have had a couple of discussions about these scenarios and both came to the conclusion ( he did way before I did ha ha) I believe IMHO an investment, of about the same money, in a regear with lockers would be more functional and help the truck run cooler in trail scenarios. Again just my pea brain thinking

 

This same discussion is where I got a better understanding of this. I think it makes since why a lot of the west coast guys can get SCs while many on the east coast don't. We just don't have the ability to be as wide open as the westies do. But if it is mainly for street, then I don't think you will have much issue.

 

True dat. But it only amounts to about $4 extra per fill-up and that's only if the tank is extremely low. That's less than the cost of one trip to Starbucks.

 

The one difference I see, compared to your example, is the Toyota motors and the TRD/Magnuson S/Cs were specifically designed to work with each other. It's not like you've got a random engine and you bolt on a random S/C.

 

I'll agree with that. I do believe that there is a difference between being driven in normal conditions (highway and streets) and in off road conditions where you are moving at a much slower pace. Perhaps it's worth looking in the perfrmance threads and seeing if you can find some guys that wheel with their's regularly and get some experienced feedback. I stand behind my original statement of what I believe would be more functional I just keep remembering all I had to go through getting my car to cool properly

I bought it first and had them install it.

 

This is good to know that there's a shop locally or semi-local that other members have used that does good work for if anyone ever needs fab word done.

It'll end up being more than $4 per tank, unless you're running mid-grade gas already. I spend about $4 more per tank filling my WRX with 93 compared to filling my truck with regular, and I put around 1.25 gallons less in the car per fill-up. Going from regular to premium in my truck would be about an extra $10 per tank.

 

Does anyone in my neck of the woods have a set of front mudflaps for a 2-gen that I can borrow?

When I bought my truck it had rear mudflaps but no front mudflaps. I suspect maybe the previous owner removed them after he did the lift; possibly because of a rubbing problem. I would prefer to have front flaps but I don't want to go and buy a set just to find out I have to take them off again.

So I was hoping I could borrow a set and install them for a few days to see if there is a problem before buying something.
