Don't feel bad. My leather driver's seat on my 2012 wore out in the same place after 6 months. They replaced the seat cover in house, fucked that up too, so they agreed to have it refitted by an actual auto re-upholstery shop. I put ballistic nylon seat covers on it immediately after that.

I was gonna say the FJ was notorious for this. My 08 started showing wear immediately. This isn't a third gen issue, its a Toyota issue.

Don't drag your ass/back over the bolsters and use the steps to get in and out.

I HATE when I have passengers and they just slide their lazy asses out of the seat to step down onto the ground instead is using the step.

Your seats are definitely wearing prematurely. It would seem the supplier of the fabric isn't meeting some specification. Toyota should definitely replace at no cost since this should be a warranty item.

Yes, Toyota is addressing this issue today. Very fast service. So, the problem is the same material is going back on. I'll have to spring for seat covers as I keep my trucks a long time and I'm sure the replacements will wear just as fast.. My previous truck was a 2003 Tacoma

I'm a little skeptical the same material is going back on. This is purely speculation on my part, but it seems your truck and possible others got some substandard fabric. If ALL the Tacoma trucks had that fabric and problem, there would be a recall. There's no way that is normal and it would seem to be a relatively small batch.

Case in point, you're the first person to really report this at this site. It should be apparent by now what a noisy bitchy lot we are. If the problem was as widespread as some of the other problems, there would a thread with hundreds of sample pics.

Hence the reason I surmise the factory got a bad roll of fabric. I wonder if the seats are made in China and shipped to Mexico and Texas.

I don't find the seat material on my truck to be of low quality or substandard material, as I have 20k miles on the clock on them and they look like day one.

But, when we were shopping for a new T4R my better half wanted the SR5 so I pointed out to her the cheap look and feel of the seat material, as opposed to the seat material on the old '03 4R. This is the main reason I insisted on the ltd model as it comes with leather standard, but sad to say she still misses the old reliable cloth seat '03 that were like new after almost 200k on the clock.

So maybe if things are changing, as long as they run good, and reliably, Clazzios Ftw would work for me too!

I ordered the Casrhartt gravel color from autoanything. Coupons don't apply to Carhartt seat covers but they did come down $20 to $178.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
If you you use your truck to do "dirty deeds" (wood cutting or landscaping) --the Carhartts are great -I have a set of the grays. If you like fancier --the leather covers would do you well. Good luck with the replacement --that "defect" is really wide open to a dealer's interpretation as to what is "normal" wear!

ok, replacement seat fabric is starting to show wear.. This sucks. No sandpaper pants, butt dragging or any other unnatural activities going on here. And it's a F'ing truck, come on Toyota!

I took a seat knob, used a dremel and sandpaper and then black paint and came up with this. I've got 2 years, 21000 miles on my truck and look at the seat material. Normal guy, no odd pants or sandpaper, knives, gravel or other stuff on my butt. Just crappy seat materials. To cover the hole in the fabric, I cut a coozie kind've like a donut to go behind the knob. I'll find a new one that is all black but this one works for now. I'm going to cut it a bit smaller to reduce the curling of it as it gets pushed in by the knob itself.
