If it is something that can be fixed easy your pre trip inspection should have caught it

I would worry more about water and food while waiting to be rescued.

Dude! I got an 02 XTRA Cab, I can certainly help you with the front end. I got a lot taken off last night to replace a CV axle... I can tell you this, I'd definitely carry the full socket set up to 24mm (for the lower ball joint castle nut) and I'd also carry 14-18mm wrenches and a few hex drives. I'd also carry a chisel set, rubber mallet, 4 lbs hammer, and a tie rod puller. Those few things will get you a LONG way- as you can see below.

I got this all done last night, and I'm waiting on a few more parts to come in here before I can finish up:

I'm replacing the LCA bushings, inner/outer tie rods, lower ball joints, CV axles, Painting the calipers and rotors, and adding some truck bed liner to a few parts on the frame. Should have that side done in a few days.

Interesting. I take off the 4 lower control arm bolts rather than the lower ball joint castle nut. The 4 bolts are a bastard to get lined back up though.

Hopefully I won't have to take this stuff apart anytime soon. I've done it so many times I can replace a CV axle in 45 minutes.

Awesome. I'm doing the total replacement and there was another castle nut where it attaches to the LCA and was 24mm...
