Building the drawers isn't too difficult. Just watch a couple youtube videos on it and you'll become a pro. Also, there are lots of different ways to save money on the drawer slides. The slides I used ended up being one of the most expensive parts of my build. If you do use drawer slides, the slides will have directions on what kind of clearance you need to build into the actual drawer so it fits into the cabinet with the slides.

instead of sinking time into slides, you could just do the drawer without slides and have it just sit on the bed. slides are super awesome and clean, but there are other options if its something you don't want to sink too many resources into.

Solid advice from both of you, thank you! Sounds like I have a bunch of research to do still! I plan on mainly using it in winter, so I have some time still to plan something out.

I just left mine open and use long clear totes from lowes. that way I can always take all the totes out and put something oddly shaped under there. that center piece of plywood also pulls out and slides in on the bottom of the bed just in case I need to use the full height of the bed and cap. its just all about what you need and want. take your time. youll have this truck and set up for years. you can always change it as the need calls for it.

Nice! I was actually thinking about the idea of totes to keep it simple and easily removable. Could you post some more pictures with the piece on the bottom and with the totes when you get a chance? Also, what do you use for a bed? Air mattress, camping pad, futon mattress?

It holds 4 of these bins perfectly
and plenty of room to open the beer cooler and grab one out!

I thought I had one of our sleeping stuff in there too, but apparently not.

Sweet! Thanks man. This honestly seems like the simplest and cheapest option out there. I might add another support in the middle for the bed, but I like that setup a lot. Its hard to tell from the picture, but is it resting on the wheelwell? Just wondering if you could go any lower with it for more headroom.

Thanks, yea the sides are resting on the wheel well. I was considering routing out where the wheel wells are so that I could gain an inch or so, but it was more trouble than it was worth. honestly, the center of that plywood doesn't sag hardly at all (if it sags at all). I was considering the same support, but found it unnecessary for me. its also 3/4" ply so its pretty stout.

Hoping this will fit in my new Tacoma. I had it on my 91 toy pick up and a 99 frontier. I know I have to raise it up to clear GPS antenna. Weight is 920.

Is anyone who is over six feet tall sleeping in the back of the truck with a cap? It's something that I would like to do; but, I am concerned about the short bed. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I am six feet and sleep in the bed, but its the 6ft bed I imagine you could do it in the short bed, but you would just have to rig a tarp over the tailgate portion so that you can sleep with the gate down for leg room.

I'm 6'4" and managed to sleep in my shortbed with a 95lb doggo. If you don't mind sleeping at an angle or in a fetal position it's not too bad.

Tested out my new setup this weekend. Worked really well. I'm definitely digging this set up.
