TIRE Help - What's The Best Aggressive AT C Load Range 265/75/16?

I agree...at this point I am choosing between staying P rated in OEM size or going C in 265/75/16....and suffering more of a hit on mpg and also needing to correct my speed and odometer on the dash.

Hoping someone with an aggressive tread comes out in Load C at OEM size before my stock Goodyears wear or puncture out. So far they have actually performed better than I have hoped.

 

Seems like the only decent tires are the Duratac and the WILDPEAK A/T3W, for load C aggressive look.

 

I want to move up to the 265/75/16. The Duratrac is always there for us and I think in your size (stock) the General AT2 is an option but it may be a P rated tire.

 

Yes my mind is already made up...if I decide to upsize I will be going Load C Duratrac it hits all the marks and is only 43lbs as well. Can't lose there.

Yeah nice looking tire and spec'd tire the General Grabber AT2 is....16/32 in tread depth which is good. Its light at 40.5lbs, tread and side blocks look nice and aggressive. But its P rated....same song and dance. Thank for the info though.

 

There's some feedback on here if you search. Most are saying that they're a little louder than the BFG AT but not as loud as the previous gen Grabber or the BFG MTs. That sounds logical, as the tread pattern looks to be between the 2 BFG offerings. Here's a pretty good pic of the old Grabbers vs X3. I think they were going for a AT/MT tweener.

I'll probably switch over the next time I get a flat on one of the Stock Wranglers. I've been trying to hold out, but I have 20K miles and 4 plugs already.

Four patches would make me a little nervous and would definitely have me looking now for sure.

 

Only 1 tire has 2 patches on it and they're 100 degrees apart. Should've swapped it out for the one on the spare, but I'm a cheapass and they wanted to charge me.

 

To me these trucks should have at least had the option for a more aggressive factory tire but especially the OR and Pro.

 

I totally agree, but I believe that they couldn't do it and still get over 20MPG. When all of their full size competition over 20MPG, it's a tough sell.

 

Yep, that along with the fact that it might add another $50 towards their bottom line... I agree and these trucks are surprisingly capable as is but I always try to get better threads if possible. We just don't have as many options as I would like.

 

BFG Rugged Terrain T/A . They wear real good as far as Tread life. They are not super aggressive but they are ok.

 

Why is everyone hung up on load range C tires? After doing some research I have found that most P- Tires have a higher load rating than C range tires of the same size. Typically the only disadvantage is that you loose a few 32nds of tread depth.

 

I would google this question for more concise info. There's a lot to it, but for many on this forum (like me) it is about off road durability. Do a quick check of the some tires and you'll find the p version is lighter and has less tread depth. Great if stay on pavement. Better gas mileage and better ride. Go off road, and less rubber and tread is a liability.

 

For real off road durability you should look at flotation tires. I don't think there is very much difference between the other two.

 

I actually have the original red letter grabbers in 35x12.50. They are the best riding and smoothest ATs I've ever run.

 

I had a set of these on my 2010 4Runner and they performed great. A little noisier than most A/T tires, but they are not loud at all. When my KO 2's need replacing, this will be my next tire.

 

You do lose tread depth and to me that matters. In most instances the C rated tires are more durable than the P rated tires. I want the size and slightly upgraded durability along with the extra tread depth without getting the extra weight and stiff ride of an E rated tire. Everyone has different needs and an E rated tire is not one of mine. You do make a good point in that some P rated tires have a slightly higher load rating but I am not sure most do. If there was a P rated tire that met my needs I would definitely consider it.

 

In the same boat as everyone else. I like the look of the OR rims and dont off road at all. But im interested in going up a tire size like you all. Would like to see what you all decide with. Everything ive read, points me in the duratrac direction.

 

I'm going next week to see the General AT2 and X3 in person and then to GY to see the Duratrac. If General's website is right (we will see) then I can't get the AT2 in the size and load rating I want. There are a lot of Tacos on the road and it's hard to believe we are so limited in tire selection.

 

If your going to look at the Duratracs in load range C, do yourself a favor and check the sidewall thickness. I did this and was really surprised how thin and flimsy the sidewall was compared to all other tires.
