I leave it at home (in a safe) if I'm going to be spending a long time somewhere that doesn't allow CC. If I'm running into a store with that doesn't allow firearms, a properly concealed pistol is not going to be noticed.

If leaving your pistol in your console is a regular practice for you I'd suggest a console vault to secure it since in a smash and grab you can pretty much guarantee that they are going to look in your console and glovebox.

No. Again its not my responsibility to go above and beyond to prevent the actions of others.

I'm not going to spend the money nor lose complete use of my console to put a safe in.

What someone does with items stolen from my truck is not my problem.

I keep a spare house key in my glove box. Guess I should keep that in a vault in case someone steals it and tries to stab someone with it.

Actually, as a firearm owner, it is your responsibility to keep your weapon secure.

And the firearm is out of sight, in a locked vehicle. Is that not secure? Do you not keep valuables in your locked vehicle because you don't think it's secure?

@Chase8059, I'm not sure you understand. Valuables are very different than a firearm and no, I don't think a locked car is secure storage for a firearm.

Actually they aren't. Many things can be used as weapons in a car. It's not my fault what someone does with things they steal.

A key versus a handgun are apples and oranges. As a firearm owner, if you choose to carry it is your responsibility to keep it secured within your means if you have to leave it in your vehicle for whatever reason. You can even get relatively budget friendly handgun lockboxes that are better than just locking your vehicle doors.

Just cause "it's not your problem" doesn't make the fact that some scumbag took your firearm and potentially went and murdered/robbed someone with it any better.

It's not apples and oranges. It's the same thing.

No one is responsible for the actions of others.

It's not the same thing by a long shot. One of those items is an every day object that no Joe Shmoe burglar is going to bat an eye at to ever use for harm, whereas the other was built for just that. The argument that any object can be used to kill someone is painting it as an excuse.

Of course no one is responsible but failing to even protect a handgun from a thief is negligence.

Do what you want but if I exit my vehicle and the handgun can't go with me, it gets locked up.

Correct. I'm not responsible for other gun owners who don't feel the need to properly secure their weapons but that doesn't mean that I'm going to take shortcuts in securing mine. If I don't take reasonable steps to secure a gun and it is stolen, I carry some responsibility in that. I don't want to derail the OP's thread anymore so this conversation should move over to the firearms forum. Feel free to start a thread there and tag me if you wish to discuss further.

I think having a lock box inside one's vehicle is the best way to go. Personal opinions aside, I would suggest anyone look at their state & local laws to make sure their plan is legal. What will pass in Arizona may not in New Jersey.

for the dough, Alien makes some of the best stuff out there. For my daily CCW needs, nothing is more comfortable than their IWB stuff.

nice idea, but one concern I have is that it is not very concealed...if pulled over by LOE, even with a CCW permit and being legal, seeing a handgun within easy reach of the driver may make an LOE anxious and make less than ideal decisions. Just saying.

downside is that a vault is harder to access. The reason one CCW's is in order to have immediate protection if ever needed.

That's fine when you're in the vehicle. In my opinion the point of a vault is for those that leave their firearm in their car.

For no other reason then if the need ever arose that I were to need it. You may or may not have heard of the stabbings that occured recently in my very hometown of austin texas at the University of Texas.

If I were to have been driving around campus and saw this I could have stopped it much sooner than Law Enforcement could respond.

What good is it locked in your truck 24/7? Do you sleep in the truck?
