    hey guys,

I need to wire up my 3rd brake light and dome light on a used LEER cap I just acquired.

I have (2) sets of red/black wires: one for the brake one for the dome.

    -Starting with the 3rd brake:

I'm watching this video: https://vimeo.com/99947882 and the guy taps into the brake light with the red, and grounds the black @ a bolt. Is this correct?
    Is there a better way?

I know we have separate lights for blinkers, I've heard if that's not the case the brake light will blink with the blinker lol.

    -Dome light:
Do I need to wire the red up to the battery? Or can I tap into another source (trailer lights)?
    Best spot to ground?

I'll get some pics shortly of my wires.

For right now I basically just want to know if that video is correct

I'm at work right now so I guess on break I'll find the set of wires for the 3rd brake and do that first

Now I just need to know if I have to run power from the battery for the dome light or if there's a closer source

I hate butchering factory wiring, so I bought a Hopkins jumper harness and sliced & diced that instead. It grounds back through the factory wiring that way..

I just added a 3 pin flat to the canopy. Quick & easy removal when needed
My dome light only works when taillights are on tho...

You can do this different ways, i just chose to use an aftermarket lighting switch/relay (which includes an inline fuse) for inside the cab and ran the wiring along the frame to the back. This allows me to leave the light on in the cap and switch it on and off from inside the cab when im drivig. It also allows you to turn the cab switch on and then turn the light off inside the shell(without having to get out and turn the switch off in the cab). This is good for me when im sleeping in the shell. Mines a leer 100R so should be similar

Edited to add: this also solves the problem of a constant hot wire (for the interior dome light) as your relay/wiring is connected directly to the battery

The only non-reversible thing about it is the oval hole I drilled in the steel bed support to feed the wiring through... I epoxied the bare metal edge & used an old gromett I had in my junk collection
    IMG_20140430_205916.jpg
If ever I need to return to stock, I'd just put a regular oval gromett in it

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
some people power dome from the taillights but then it only works if tails are on.

I haven't found a constant hot back there. Trailer harness is switched.

I plan to put in multiple lights in shell. One spliced into cab dome circuit and other with a switch in shell pulling pwr from battery. I hate running wires so supplies have just been sitting in garage a few months so far.

If it has a frameless rear window, its more than likely a 100xr. The 100r's have a framed rear window with locks on each side (2 total) where as the 100xr have a single lock in the middle (these are for the cab high models). I believe the leer 180 is 5inches higher than the cab and i believe the leer 122 is 10inches higher than cab

Awesome I will have to make sure to put an in-line fuse when I run my hot.

I'm not sure right now but in the future I think I would like to add additional lights in the cap, or at least be able to charge small items Like cell phones etc.

The height of mine is flush with the cab, The rear window does have a frame (The two locking handles are on the frame not on the glass), and my side windows slide open.

It sounds like mine is a 100R then?
