    All,

Love the look of the 285/75/16 tires. Those who have them (or a similar big tire) and have done all the supporting mods (CMC, trimming, spacers or low offset wheels)----Assuming you're keeping the stock gearing....

What is it like driving with them daily?

Is it significantly more sluggish? Is the gearing/tranny shifting really "thrown off"?

    What happens to MPG's?

-I'm considering playing it safe with 265/75/16 tires, but LOVE how the 285's look on a lifted 3rd gen. Curious to see what kind of impact they have on daily driving/commuting and if I want to go that direction. Do NOT want to re-gear and want to keep driving near-OEM and civilized.

@Sixgun CO has 285s and had to regear pretty sure. He said it was awful compared to his jeep due to the tranny and motor in these.

    @avitaco Also regeared

Seems to me like you already had your mind made up and you are just seeking validation. Go do it and let us know how you feel about it.

the best way to answer this question is simply trial and error

go buy the cheapest 285s you can find on the used market, if you look hard enough and normally 100-200 bucks gets you a set of 4

try that and see if you like it enough to spend the 1k on a set of new fresh rubber shoes

    just my .02

i do not believe in doing it once the right way the first time... that is horse shit

Minor power loss. Not much. I run E rated too. I expected a big drop when going from 265/75s E load to 285/75 E load. Maybe lost 1mpg possibly less. I added after putting on kings

There are people here running 265/70/17s that claim 2, 3 or 4MPG lost so each experience is HIGHLY individualized.

How much did you lose from STOCK tires.

I mean I definitely lost 2-3 when I went to the 265/75 in E load. But going from 265/75 to 285/75 the loss was minimal

I don't understand this question in context of the discussion. Are you just trying to troll me? I believe that is highly frowned upon.

No sir, was just clarifying if they were terrible at running 285's. Should have been more specific. Apolgies.

I went from 245s to 285s about a year ago. Still have not done CMC yet, only trimmed lower fender plastic. However if i was offroad/flexing more often, the cmc would need to be done. It still gets up and goes fine, still quick. MPG didn't take too bad of a hit for me, but depends on how heavy your foot is. I went with 285s becuase i knew i would have most definitely regretted it had i gone with 265s instead.

245s to 285s; lost 2mpg. 245s I was getting 17.5ish and now I get about 15.5ish. I drive with ECT on 99% of the time.

To me it shifts the same.

275 17s. 2.5 inch lift 4x4 DCSB. Prior to lift and tires 23ish. Post 20ish. I didn't notice any change in behavior, power, quickness.
