Hmmm. I thought we were safe if we weren't included in the recall, but maybe not.
Mine is dry now. No signs of any leakeage when I checked. Hopefully it stays that way.

Hey guys I need a little help here. I am about to buy a 2017 TRD OR MT or AT not sure which one yet. So, I like the AT because of the Crawl Control, and saw the AT does not have Crawl Control. I have heard of Atrac, but can't find if the 3rd gen MT's have that or not. If so, is it descent or is crawl control better?

OR MT's have ATRAC. Crawl Control is just cruise control for ATRAC, in the manual you control the gas in the automatic you set it and let the truck do it's thing.

Depends. Do you want things to be easier, or do you want to go old school and do it the hard way? It's a personal choice. Which seems more fun to you?

In the MT your crawl control is 4low and 1st gear. Atrac is good in the sand but that is about all I have found it useful for. My truck with my welding trailer in tow is in 4wd 2-300 miles a month due to the conditions I work in on my side job and I have yet to use the Atrac any where but in loose dry sand on a beach trip. The AT crawl control is just a gimmick IMHO. Don't drink the koolaid on the crawl control get the manual trans and life will be a lot happier for you.

So is there a button you press to use the Atrac? I do drive on the beach sometime, that is why I thought the crawl control may be worth it after watching the videos. Also, I have been reading about 2016's auto tranny gear searching issues, but I am going with a 2017 and not sure if it is still an issue.

There is a button above the rear view mirror. No changes have occurred to the truck between 2016 to 2017 except for the sliding power rear window

Hmmm so if I got the AT should I expect to have tranny searching for gear issue?

In theory, yes. Take a test drive, you may not notice the searching. I feel some people are over sensitive and search for issue with these trucks, but I have never driven in a third gen with an auto yet so I can't personally comment on the transmission.

I am coming from a '13 wrangler with 35's and 3.21 gears that the overdrive is unusable, so I would probably like it haha. I had a 2003 manual Tacoma 4x4 I loved, that's why I am considering a manual. Sounds like you guys are loving the manual and having no issues

Honestly, I almost think that the problem with the 3rd gen Tacoma 'hunting' for gears stems from a lack of cabin insulation as much as anything. All modern automatics shift a lot; it's just the nature of the design when you put six gears (or more!) in an automatic and program it for fuel economy. My F150 shifts a lot too. But the cabin is sound insulated well enough that it's not glaringly obvious when it does shift. The Tacomas I test drove were much louder, and you could really hear every shift.

Now, the dropping out of OD whenever you find a hill on the interstate, that's probably an issue of power. The 3.5 doesn't make a lot of grunt until you hit higher RPM's, so it always wants to drop to a lower gear if you put any sort of load on it.

I'm going to be honest, I have yet to see a single person use crawl control in a way that wasn't just trying to see how crawl control worked in a situation. Heck, I got an OR and I haven't even been in a situation where I had to turn on ATRAC, because I have 4LO, a locker, and good tires.

You get better gearing, a lot of control, and a mother fucking sunglasses holder.

Nice I need a sunglass holder haha. So, ATRAC in the MT is like crawl control in the AT? I tried to read about ATRAC and I dont understand. And, ATRAC is only available in the 3rd gen TRD OR MT? Sorry for all the ?'s. I just want to know what I am getting into before buying.

+1 for the sunglasses holder. Far more useful and utilized than crawl control. But we do loose out on one extra cup holder so there is that trade-off.

Atrac is just a different program for the traction control from what I understand. It's like a super aggressive braking differential.

No problem, ATRAC is really aggressive "limited slip differential" using ABS on the individual wheels to maintain traction. MTS, which comes on the AT, is basically a selector knob for varying aggressiveness of ATRAC, and Crawl control just adds throttle automation to all that.

As far as I understand of course :)

Crawl control is for all practical purposes ATrac with selectable throttle settings.

ATrac however lets you control the throttle position.
