So I messaged every distributor on alibaba with a minimum order quantity of 5 or less, and every one of them said the part is out of stock. Looks like the rest of the distributors require 50 or more. I bought a used TB off E-Bay last night. Hopefully the TPS doesn't have too many miles on it!

If you manage to find a distributor on Alibaba that had them, I'm still in to buy one.

We could probably get 50+ that would buy one just to have. But it wouldn't be a right now thing. Some times Alibaba can take a month. Also shipping can be expensive at times.

Yeah I'm not trying to start my own parts store out here... although with the number of Tacomas on this island I could probably just set up a roadside stand and make a fortune! Thanks for all the input everyone!

Hey I would be in to buy one as long as the price isn't outrageous.
I think Toyota decided to replace the whole thottle body as whole instead of making parts available for it with the thinking that if one rheostat/potentiometer is going out that the others (drive by wire )are not far behind.

When I had this issue with my 03 tacoma I ended up replacing the entire throttle body assembly with one from an 01 4runner. Went from 4 prong to 3 prong.

RPain did you do it yourself? Is it feasible for an amateur DIYer to take a crack at it?

I did not, I paid a local mechanic an hours worth of labor to get it done. Was worth it for how long I was dealing with that funky TPS.

Details on how you did that? Don't see how it's possible on a drive by wire system

So if I were to buy a new TB assembly from the dealership with the 3-prong is that something I can install myself, plug and play? Or is it more comprehensive than that?

you can't go from 4 to 3 without rewiring something. If you already have the 3 prong then you can get the TPS by itself.

What are the symptoms of the failing TPS? Do you lose throttle response at points in the pedal travel?

Yeah that's what I figured, hopefully this used TPS works when it gets here Monday.

I have a rough idle when in drive and it runs rough from a stop up to about 2000-2200 RPMs. And it's recently started throwing a CEL, but Autozone in Hawaii will no longer read codes for you.. since the problem started I've done a ton of maintenance. Changed plugs, belts, timing belt, water pump, pulleys, fuel filter, cleaned MAF sensor, changed oil, drained transmission fluid, flushed radiator... lots of miles of neglecting maintenance, not gonna lie, and shortly after this problem started I went in water up to my hood and EVERYTHING went wrong at once. Ran great for about a week after all that, then the power loss came back worse than before. Good news is, if I fix this problem I should be good for another 100,000 miles or so, right?? :humble:

Whoooo you submarined it up to the hood? There can/will be numerous things that will be effected
Some will show up later. Did the engine die from sucking in water? Was the cab full of water? To what height? What all electrical components did you change after going swming!

It kept moving and never died... I was on the road too, that's the worst part! Just some deep water on a super rainy day on my way home from work! I let it dry out and there was just some chirping and whining, did all the pulleys and belts and it was running better than ever. I don't think I sucked in much water. Luckily my next door neighbor is a mechanic and he took a look. Time will tell though I suppose.

And just up to the hood... barely kept it from going over
