Looks like invoice on the one you're looking at would be right at $37,688 (if you add in a $241 alarm invoice cost).
Looks like they're MSRP'ing the alarm at $667 or so.

You said "shopping in LA", so I'm assuming you didn't buy yet?

You should be able to get that truck for Invoice (or less) in SoCal with a little work, and save yourself about $2,300 over the price you have, if not more.

I didn't shop the premium tech packages, because the moonroof just wouldn't work for me. So maybe it's harder to find a deal on a truck with premium tech? Can't answer that. But I know the TRD OR 4x4 in quicksand seems to be a hard truck to keep on the lot, and there aren't a lot of them about.

I got the price I did by hitting the 8 dealers I found in SoCal with what I wanted on the truck (out of 42 dealers) which had it in inventory. Phone call to internet sales managers or fleet sales managers only. Spoke to each one on the phone, told them I'd be buying this week, and if they wanted a chance to sell me one, I would like their direct email addresses so I could email my specs.

If you order up the "fighting chance" booklet, it's $35 I think, and he goes into detail about how to handle all of this. Well worth it in my opinion. I used them 15 years ago when I bought my last truck. But it had been so long since I went shopping for a new vehicle, I needed to brush up on technique. Lots of really good info in there.

    Some tips:

Only two reasons to walk into a dealership is first to test drive. Then thank them for their time, tell them you'll be shopping in a few weeks and will include them, and then LEAVE. And then enter a dealership again when it is time to sign papers and pick up your truck.

Internet sales managers or fleet managers only if you can. Keep the floor sales people away by means of taser, 10' hard pole, pepper spray, or whatever object reasonably available. Sure, some people get smoking deals by walking into a dealership, haggling with sales people for a couple hours, back and forth, etc. I don't have the patience for it, and odds are, you can get a better deal from the same dealer had you not engaged floor sales and floor managers. Increase the odds in your favor, not theirs. Internet managers and fleet managers know exactly where the dealership sits in relation to their monthly / quarterly goals, and have authority to make deals to meet those goals without getting a floor or sales manager involved.

Search every dealer's inventory you can find in SoCal. Try to deal at least at first with only the ones who have the truck on the lot. From what I've seen, they are all pretty good at updating the inventory on their websites pretty darn quickly. Usually within 8 hours or so.

Include dealers in far off places like Bakersfield, Hemmet, San Diego. Would you spend $20 in gas and 5 or 6 hours round trip to save $1,000 or more from what the LA area guys are willing to go? I did.

Wait until the last week of the month to make calls, follow up emails, and start taking offers. You should be able to hopefully find at least one dealer who is trying to hit their numbers for the end of the month so they can get their manufacturer performance bonuses. You likely just can't get the same deal in the first week of the month as you will in the last week of the month. I'm sure there are exceptions, but the odds are more in your favor at the end of the month, and locating a dealer who is close to their goals, and will do whatever it takes to reach them. They WILL sometimes take a big hit or loss on a truck if it means moving that last one or two trucks nets them their numbers and a huge 5 or 6 figure manufacturer bonus. THAT is the dealer you are hoping has your truck and that you find them at the right time.

I started calling Monday morning last week, and had a deal locked up by 1pm on Tuesday.

Keep stacking odds in your favor (end of month, no salespeople, know your pricing, let them know you know their pricing), and you're already way ahead of some guy that walks into a showroom or dealers lot on May 6th thinking he's gonna get anything close to a great deal.

    Another data point from NH:
Inferno OR DC, with premium&tech package with JBL, tonneau cover, towing, carpet floor mats with door sills.

A cross-state dealer had this truck in their delivery system (it was exactly what I wanted, and there wasn't one within 100 miles of me), gave me a price I could live with, so I went to my local dealer where I did all my test driving and said, "Match it and I'll buy it from you... even if I have to order it". They ended up getting the truck from teh cross-state dealer when they got it in.

    MSRP: $39,912
Paid: $36,189 (plus fees of $495, which my local dealer matched the cross-state one)

Financing through Toyota at 2.6% (I have really good credit, and put a good chunk down).
    Purchased last Thursday.

I will probably be paying the current equivalent of $16k to $18k fro a 2017 Tacoma--that is if I am still around and were buying a 2017 Tacoma it would likely be 9 to 10 years from now.

We haven't bought "new" for over 30 years. I just bought my '09 DCSB (135k miles) in October of last year and plan to get at least 8 or 9 years out of that "investment". We will have had the wife's '03 Highlander for 10 years next month; bought it in June of 2007 with 90k, has just 208k now; I like for her to have a reliable vehicle...

Have you "built" the vehicle you want through the Toyota website to see about how many are in that configuration and color available? It won't tell you what dealer has it (it will only point you to the dealer closest to your zip code, and assumes that dealer will make a trade for the vehicle with the dealer that actually has it).

Only way I found to really find out what dealer has the configuration you want is to visit every dealer's website in SoCal. If there's another way to do it, I'm not aware of it. I looked at over 40 of them when I went shopping. It is often easier to get a dealership to deal on a car they actually have on their lot. Some of them won't even do dealer trades.

I personally wouldn't pay but a few bucks over invoice in SoCal, unless it is a rare and fast going combination (manual trans long bed or some such thing). A white sport with JBL should not be too hard to locate and get a deal on. Right now it's showing 10 of them in SoCal (LA area) not including San Diego area. Eight of them in 2WD, two in 4x4. Only way to find out what dealer has which one is to go through every dealer's website. I wish there was an easier way, but not that I found.

If you get an OTD price in SoCal including all fees, taxes, etc., that is somewhere around MSRP, you're in the ballpark of "good deal". But unless you have mad negotiating skills and are ready to play their games and incur all the headaches and frustration that goes with that process, you likely will not get that by walking into a dealership and negotiating with a salesman.

I live in CA, 45 minutes north of Los Angeles. I paid invoice, which was roughly $2500 under sticker. I walked out twice at $500 over inv and $100 over inv. Since I liked the truck I felt that was the best deal I was gonna get. Then add in 7.75% sales tax, DMV fees etc. I also bought the premium warranty 6 years, 75000 miles for $2500. I think I over paid for that. It's basically fully loaded.

Today I visited another Stealership and the salesman did not even try selling. Again, asking $5000 over sticker price telling me it was a good deal because other dealerships are asking $10,000 above price. Told this fool I wasn't in the market for a Tacoma PRO hence silencing his non sense.

Any ways, I won't lie, I feel discouraged at this point. I will not pay $5K over just because I want a Manual Transmission.

I'm beginning to think I should wait a year and change until the new Ford Ranger is available.
