To each is own but I know how much work my buddies (without diff drops) have put into their front ends over the past several years and I've only replaced one tie rod end. Proof is in long term use. Not internet warrior's opinions.

In all reality, I think either way, these trucks will be fine. The torn CV boots are likely from the people lifted too much in the front to know any better.

EDIT: Proof works both ways though. If someone has had it installed and wheels hard and had no issues, their claims are just as valid as yours and your buddies.

These trucks aren't all the same also.... I have a 3in(nearly) lift and my CV angles are fine with no drop. My dented up skid plate is evidence enough that a diff drop is not for me.

Lifts truck 3" and gains another 1/2" clearance from tire size increase. Loses 1" of the 3 1/2" from diff drop but saves several hundred dollars worth of parts and days of labor over long term use. Makes sense to me.o_O

Straight from Mobtowns website in regards to their 05-15 IFS skid.

That's what I was getting at. I have a diff drop and my friends without one have broken alot more shit than me. That leads me to the conclusion that it's working as advertised.

OHHH. My bad. I misunderstood your post at the top of the page. I thought you were against diff drops by the way you were referencing your buddies. I initially read it as they off roaded hard, not worked on their trucks hard

It's hard to compare that way though... maybe your buddies wheel harder.. or maybe you are a better driver than your buddies.

There it is. So I only lost 1/4" of the 3 1/2" gained by the lift and tires. Why wouldn't you install it at that point?

Aftermarket Skid is why. Also, if you aren't having issues due to CV angles I guess.

Edit: all that being said, I'd probably have one if I was tearing CV boots and I'd just get a skid that is made to fit with it.

The photo I posted is from mobtowns IFS skid that is designed to work with or without a diff drop. It only lowers the skid by a fraction of an inch.

I think you typed that while I was editing... I guess if you are having issues get it done... If not, don't fix what isn't broken

I probably could have worded that post better. My friends without diff drops have broken alot more front end components than I have, resulting in them having to work on their trucks, replacing parts more often. I, on the other hand, have only ever needed to replace one tie rod end over the past 5 years. I attribute that, in part atleast, to the diff drop taking stress out of the front end components.

True. I do tend to negotiate obsticales rather than trying to drive or jump through/over them at top speed, but still I've seen enough evidence to feel like it's doing its job.

    No need for name calling.

There have been absolutely ZERO failures caused by "bad lubrication".
