I spoke to Miss Cleo and she told me that my diff would eventually leak and to find out the precise date it would start will cost me 5.99 a minute...

What's even worse is that she died last year just like Toyota's truck reputation.

Most likely Toyota knows they have to fix the majority of rear end leaks and they need 2 months to make and get a stack of parts ready. The limited parts they have is for warranty and non-recall work only, thus part of the reason the 2 month delay on the letters. The other reason is to get the paper work and bureaucracy processes together for compliance and documentation.

I called my service write and canceled my appointment since I am on the list, I have the weeping and it is not bad, like most as seen here. He very badly wanted me to come in. And I gave him some BS about schedule. Then he told me my Truck was under recall and it was a safety recall and I needed to come in. I reminded him I was there Friday and everything checked out normal on the 20K service including the differential level and if it didn't leak down after the last 5K miles it should be okay for a few more. He used the safety tag again, and I told him if it was such a safety concern, why the 2 month wait to tell Tacoma owners about it. I said if you can repair this immediately, I on my way. He said we can't. I said exactly, I will come when you can:)

I just got a good shot of mine. Its weeping, but I'm not on the recall list. So, I am gonna call in the AM and see if they have a 4runner as a loaner. If not, I will wait for a recall notice..you know since my truck doesn't have a safety problem yet.

What you should have told him is, "you work for me, not the other way around.". At least you called him out on the urgency vs. 2 month notice BS.

Same thing I told them, they were fine with me waiting until they
told me letter has gone out and we have parts. I sent them pics
of the weeping, she said if you're going to wait, just keep an eye on
it and make sure the weep doesn't turn into an actual leak.

The two month wait might be a bit ambitious. Many out us had to wait almost a year and a half for the rear leaf recall fix. At the time on my 2010, I changed the leafs on my own.

If you are on the recall list and have a leak, they keep the vehicle, if you are on the list and have no leaks they re-torque and send you on your way. If you are not on the list and have a leak, they order parts and fix your truck.

I did, but not first, saw it in the original thread. Not one Off-Road or Pro vin has been listed on the recall, at least not that I've seen posted. Could be because they have the locker, someone said their service manager said it's because they have a larger rear diff.... I don't know.

Mind you I'm not saying they shouldn't be, a good part of the pics posted are Off-Roads, including mine, just saying they're not on the recall list.... Yet.

Well, unless I missed it the recall says production (Mid-August 2015 – late March 2017) nothing about Off Roads being excluded and my build date falls in that time frame. I think anything that gets past a gasket is a leak as they are designed to keep fluids on either side them by design. I tried to explain to the SA yesterday that if a vehicle is showing that exact signs of a recall but not on the list something is wrong or someone has has Cranial Rectosis...

Yeah, I agree with that, I'm just pointing out that none of the Off-Road VINs are showing the recall notice, where as SR5 VINs and others are showing the recall notice when checking on Toyota's site.... So???

My Off-Road also falls within the dates, and has clear rear diff weaping, but no recall when I enter my VIN.... The good news is, that means you don't have to wait for the official recall fix, you can get it taken care of now via the warranty. The bad news is, will the non-recall fix actually solve the problem??? :notsure:

You guys are seeing and getting it the same as I do . I am thinking the bigger diff with the locker is made by a different vender than the rest but I have not seen any proof of this . I believe Toyota knows that one vender was using some bad parts that were not used by a different vender. My OR is not on the list but is seeps.
Edit - I think it is bad bolts .
