Need to find some good towing mirrors

 

not sure if they fit the third gen as well but ProEFX makes a good set. It's what I have

 

14' enclosed w/2.5' v-nose.

Doesn't like side wind very much. Previous truck was a Ram 2500 and it would stay solid regardless of what was behind it. The Tacoma moves around when the wind picks up with the enclosed behind it which is expected. Haven't hooked up the flatbed yet to test it.

 

I came across Kansas with two Honda Goldwings, one 650 custom and a small harley, in that exact trailer, the wind in Kansas and Eastern Colorado is hell when you tow.

 

what kind of hitch do you use? and what is your estimated MPG?

Anti sway hitch installed by RV dealer, heavy as hell, but extra support bars work great. Try to add pics tomorrow.

antisway or weight distributing (WDH) ?

an antisway bar is mounted on one side of the trailer and goes to a small ball alongside your main ball, the bar has a friction clamp adjustment, this is to control side to side sway, like when passed by a big semi in a strong crosswind. Classic Sway Control bar from Curt:


a WDH comes in a couple designs, the classic ones are a pair of spring bars that you hook to saddles with chains, like this:

(note I have a Curt Sway Control Bar installed also, after testing with it, I tried without it and haven't used it since).

there's also a cool new improved Anderson WDH, that use two chains without spring bars. like...


both of them provide antisway, so you don't really need both a WDH and a sway control bar unless your rig sways really badly.

the primary function of a WDH is to leverage some of the trailers tongue weight onto the front axle of the tow vehicle, so you ride level, and have less tendancy to 'porpoise'....

 

My trailer has 2 axles with antisway features and the weight distribution hitch does as well, I have traveled at 60 mph on a windy day, with zero sway. The truck and trailer move as one. I was seriously worried when I bought the trailer, but both have exceeded my expectations.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I can give you and idea. My TT is 3600 lbs fully loaded and I average 10 mpg towing it through the Rocky Mountains and the grades that come with them.

I appreciate the comment though! That what I figured but I wasn't sure. I'm trying to figure out how much extra fuel to bring with me that way I don't have to get off highway and pull into gas stations. I think I would be able to save a LITTLE bit of time just pulling off the rest stops and filling up with a few 5 gallon fuel cans. I will also feel a little bit safer driving on long stretches of roads.

i know it's probably been discussed here, but have you jayco owners experienced quality issues?

I'm looking for something like a jay flight or jay feather but some people seem to have issues. what are some brands that are reliable and have good quality standards?

 

Borrowed this slick little one-up motorcycle trailer from my neighbor to bring home a new-to-me Yamaha XT250 with 400 miles on it.



Rained most of the way, but had a dry spot at a PA Tpk rest stop to check straps and lights. All good.

 

I own a Starcraft, which although it is branded differently, comes out of the same Amish factory as Jayco (and is identical to the Jayco model that year) In my 6 years of ownership, I have had zero issues with quality or workmanship. The issues I have had were of my own making (forgot to winterize the toilet and had a cracked, leaky flush valve the next spring ($25 repair).

When I am ready for an upgrade, I would have zero reservations about purchasing another Jayco product.

 

Taking a project truck that I built an external roll cage for to a customer. It was his trailer and my truck had WAY to much tongue weight bc the wheels on the trailer where in the very rear of the trailer. Plus I couldn't load the project truck on backwards bc it was running like shit. Drivoe it at 35 mph for about 30 miles. Good thing it was at 1am and there were no cars on the road.

 

Can you pull the boat out on a steep ramp?

 

Don't know. I towed it for a friend a total of 50 miles on flat ground. I'm not gonna make a routine of it, it's allot of boat!
