You can bet Toyota is making these 3rd Gen.Tacoma's for less money using cheaper labor, cheaper materials and a composite bed.Sure they have newer technology and safety features since 1996.

The average cost of a Tacoma has gone up 4% to 5% every single year the last 20 years.Wages have been stagnant for many people in the in the U.S. the last 20 years. How many people get a 4 to 5% raise every single year unless you work for a city, county, state or federal government agency.

It's about value.I bought a new V6 4 X 4 Access Cab for $17,500 back in 1995 which was a much better value for the money than what you get today from the 3rd Gen. at 35K to 40K. You can use fuzzy math all day to justify paying more for less.

Just wanted to update you guys.

My truck was dropped off yesterday and the dealer will hold it until Monday when the new gasket arrives. They're treating this as warranty work. Should be good enough until the offroads are included in the recall too.

In the mean time I'm rocking a sexy loaner corolla with chrome tipped exhaust and (you ready for this?), rear spoiler. My trd offroad has nothing on this beast.

Here's the window sticker for an 03 Extracab, exact same truck and built at the same plant as your 95 and they wanted over $25k for the MSRP. What additional value was the 03 owner getting in that timeframe?

Inflation at work here, not fuzzy math for the increase.

    CL.jpg

    04 DCAB V6 4X4 was touching 30K.

Sticker on my OR LB 4X4 was 36K and it's easily twice the truck of my 04. Better value today for the $6k increase.

Well you can see there's a finger print/swipe, so they did "check". I guess it was too dry for them to determine it was "leaking". I guess time will tell.
