Having problems is always an exception and not the norm. Show me the most unreliable car on the market today and I guarantee that the majority of those cars on the road don't have problems.

Agreed. It might be less than 1/10th of a percent, but those people are extremely vocal

I agree nice write man. I recently purchased a 2017 TRD Off Road DCSB and this is the 3rd Tacoma I have owned. I agree the transmission and lack of power was somewhat of a concern at first. I now have around 2800 miles on it and it runs wonderfully. Hope you enjoy the truck for many years to come.

Thanks. If i don't like it, I will sell it. I buy my vehicles smart and always get a deal. I figure I can walk away in three years and it will cost me $10k total. Paid $36k and they will give me around $26k then. That's cheaper than most leases.

In reply to OP's original post - nice write up. I'm 7500 miles and 6mos into my '17 OR and it's grown to fit me like a glove (or I changed to fit it... not sure). I came here from a Chevy 2500HD Duramax that towed my race car rig so quite a difference in size, weight, torque, parking and seats as well. The Taco is like a little car with a pouch for stuff in the back by comparison. Perfect for what I need right now. Super plush over terrible roads and just as easy to wheel in the city for work as out in the woods with a bed full of dirt bikes.

FWIW, one slight correction... the auto gets better mileage than the manual because it has taller gearing not just because it's an auto. Toyota likes to credit the magical properties of their programming with that EPA number but it's the final drive doing most of the heavy lifting :)

Correct, but that's why I am saying it feels weird to most. It's not the typical auto most manufacturers would use

Man it's refreshing to hear the positives on these trucks and the people who are actually happy with them. I just picked up a new 6spd manual off-road and was getting kind of worried. Love mine so far!

I contemplated getting the manual, but I like not having to shift in a truck, especially during winter driving. I save manual transmissions for sports cars, even though the truck might shift better with a manual.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
 that's not how it works bruh

A lot of people say this exact thing with these Tacomas. I wish I or someone else would just drive a brand new one and then someone's used one with like 5000 miles on it and see if there is a difference. Then at least we would know if the truck is adapting or if it is just the driver getting used to how the truck drives.

Yeah, I bought a 2010 brand new as well and I felt like it was already "broke in" I guess you could say. But, I still feel like the new one has more potential and much more modern tech with the Entune system and everything else so it all works out.

More likely you'd be killed by a distracted / texting driver.

    I like mine.
I wonder if this "tranny learning how you drive" thing is more YOU learning how to drive the truck?
    I dunno.
I never had any expectations when I bought my truck other than it would be a good truck. Its a good truck. I can't compare it to any of the last 4 trucks I had because they were either Hemis or CTDs, and I knew this was neither, so I was expecting it to be slower with less power. It is, but, it isn't a hemi or CTD, so of course it is.
    I like mine.
