I have worked quite a few years for city, state, and federal governments. 4%- 5% annual wage increases? No. The largest increase I have ever received is 2%, usually less. Some years, nothing. May be different for others, just my experience.

I don't get that, even if it was now 'dry', it sure as hell came from there.

Common Fed Govt raises used to be 3% "cost of living increase" or COLA raise I think we called it. Since sequestration Dept of Def Federal Civilians have been lucky to get any of these raises. I think this past year there was a 2% raise which was the most the Fed Service folks have seen in maybe 5 or 6 years.

So Toyota has been raising the price of Tacoma's double the rate of inflation for years while at the same time cutting cost.Prices are getting very rich at these levels for the build quality.

Price increases are normal but build quality, durability, and reliability should get better every year with every price increase.

Cutting quality and cost while raising prices is gaming the system.

Off topic but THIS! I live in VA but this has been standard for about 10 years (across all levels of govt). Unionized labor states may be different.

Yes, they are usually COLA increases. And for the record I wasn't complaining, but many times folks have a misconception about government workers raking in money for doing zero work. Many of us could make more money doing the same work in the private sector.

I just don't think the quality is matching the inflated price on Tacoma's anymore. I paid around $29K something on my '06, and I think I'll keep it until the wheels fall off.

You're pretty bad at math - both regular and fuzzy. Toyota price increases have been slightly below inflation for over two decades now. As shown by two different examples already posted.

$17,500 in 1995 is worth about $28,000 today. I'm not sure if you've got an agenda to push, but the facts don't line up for you.

For the sake of keeping this on topic, there really isn't much excuse for the quality issues in our trucks today. I think we all want the best of both worlds (quality and value) but that alone comes with a price, which these days is beyond what most are willing to pay for a Toyota.

It was designed to leak back there, if she's not wet or leaking, you're not riding her hard enough..

There is another trade off too - for fixed price more features will mean lower reliability. First there are just more things to break. Second the cost for all those extra features could have been directed to more reliable parts and assemblies in other parts of the truck. Some extra systems are mandated (safety air bags, stability control, emissions components) and other are driven by the broader market (or the companies perception of that market).

So comparing a 1991 to a 2017 even with at the same trim package and the same inflation adjusted MSRP it is quite possible many folks (especially TW members) would prefer a fictitious 2017 that had fewer features and a more robust drive train. So value to such a person has gone down because they don't value the extra features on the 2017.

That's assuming they would implement new technology. The third gen is not "all new technology" by any means, just bells and whistles.

I remember seeing signs of dusted over weeping stains on rear ends for ever . Never had a problem . This is why I think it is there is a problem of snapping / bad bolts / improperly machined castings etc. . I would bet that Toyota is going to tell the dealers to over torque by the standard 10% engineering spec . It one snaps off , replace the bolts and gasket. If not it is ok unless it keeps seeping after cleaning and the stains come back . I wish I had a dollar for every time the engineers I worked with said run the machines at 110% and all will be fine , they are designed for it .

Understood. Want to preface by saying those are good points and well stated.

Rest assured, however, that Toyota is not THAT out of touch with their market. If they were, they'd slowly cease to exist. A common issue among enthusiast communities is we assume our opinions are that of a larger group. If what you said is true, most members' profiles would show an SR 4x4 (which I don't believe is the case). Toyota makes the numbers they make because they know they'll sell them.

I guess the point I'm making is the person who perceives a descreased value is by and large a minority of all Tacoma buyers.

New update for today. Toyota corp says parts will be available end of this month. They have also relayed this info to my dealer.

I went back to the dealer and exchanges my RAV4 loaner for a new Tacoma OR. I'm not an off road guy, but I sense Plenty of off road trips in my future.

You just made my point. The price of the trucks have gone up exponentially more than wages while reliability seems to have gone down due to cost cutting in manufacturing.

    Where can I buy a 2017 4x4 V6 Access cab for $28,000 ?

Well I left my truck at the dealer while I traveled for work this week. Supposedly there was no sign of leakage on mine, but then I only got it the week before. Also not completely confident they get things right since they said my blown speaker was fine until I told them BS and took the tech out. Got an immediate, yep I hear it's bad from them. What a wasted week.

Heard about the recall on the news, so I called the dealer to see about getting my truck in. I have a 2016 4X4 access cab Sport. The girl at the service counter looked my truck up by VIN, and it was one of the recalled trucks. Checked the rear differential myself, didn't see any signs of leaking or weeping. Took the truck in 2 days later, 45 minutes later they said it was all set, there was no leaking of any sort, and that the techs tightened everything down anyway. So onward forward. Realistically I'm not going to keep this truck past the 4 or 5 year mark anyway, I don't like the transmission and the ride quality is abysmal, so as long as it runs and is under warranty I honestly don't care anymore.

    lmfao.

If its too dry its because there isn't enough left in there to leak out.
