A different approach to rear shock relocation

Very interesting setup. I like the savings compared to the BAMF and allowing the spring to be the limiting factor, not the shock.

I'm going to run Dakars and I'm interesting in going with a relocation. What shock options do we have to run with this setup? I see a few different models from Bilstein. Any Fox/King recommendations?

Also wanted to see if anyone knows the backspacing amount needed for this setup. I read that it is around the same as the BAMF, just wanted to see if there were any updates.

 

I'm running the scs sr8 wheels. 17x8.5 along with a 1.25" spacer and I very slightly rub the 5125s A bigger shock body you would need to cut the angle and make them closer to the frame

 

What size tire? I have the same wheels. Why wouldn't you cut the angle anyway to reduce the spacer?

Also, how did the ones who did this mode mount the shock to the axle? The BAMF comes with new mounting tabs to move the sock mount to the front of the axle. Is a similar idea needed for this?

 

I ordered the curved shock tabs from ruff stuff and 35x12.50. I wanted a wide stance to keep it balanced. They don't stick out that bad really and quality spacers don't bother me at all

I guess that makes sense. I just imagine the tire sticking out way to much with an additional 1.25" spacer. I have 275s now and it would only get worse if I went more.

I just did this, I shimmed the towers to bring the shocks in but they still rub at full stuff so I'll be going with 3/4" spacers. both shocks in front of axle and lower shock mounts in line with bottom of axle tube. The Dakars limit travel up and down now....about 12" of travel with bilstein 14" shocks and home made shackle flip

Anyone try this on a first gen Tacoma? Sorry if I'm lurking in a 2nd gen thread, don't crucify me... I would go to pirate if wanted catch flak.

What's the diameter of the billies?? I'm totally gonna have to go with these towers they solve a lot of issues for me, but I was considering a 2.0 style shock. My shackle flip is kinda different than all of yours so I'll have to get the forklift out and measure.

 

is a lower shock mount on the axle necessary or can you use the stock mount with these ford mounts?

 

Should be able to use stock mounts.

Definitely double check but I don't see why not. I relocated them so they wouldn't get hung up

 

that's a good point, which new mounts did you use? I was looking at the bamf relocate but this is a much cheaper option..
