Hey guys, I'm a longtime lurker and finally made an account as I've been shopping for a used Tacoma. I originally posted this in the wrong section (sorry mods!). I'm going to look at a 2014 TRD Sport Doublecab 4x4 with 103k and one owner this weekend and the dealership is asking $22,800 for it. I was wondering what all I should look out for besides issues with the frame as this will be my first Tacoma, also do you guys think the price is fair for having right around 100k?

    Thanks in advance!

I paid 26.5 for a 13 with 36k. That may be priced right but I'd keep looking.

Welcome to TW! If the truck is in great shape and has been well maintained you may want to see if you can get it under 20k. If not, I would keep looking. JMO.

Thanks guys! I've been struggling to find anything in my price range here in NC with under 100k miles on it and newer than a 2009. Everything around here seems to be way over priced and this one surprisingly has been the most reasonable. KBB and NADA are both showing north of $21k as the value so depending on it's condition I might be able to talk them down some but I'm not sure.

Good question. That's a great price for 2014 DC Sport but the miles are almost an unknown. There is no bench mark for a 3 year old truck with over 100K on it. That's ok if you are willing to pay that, however, I would offer less. See how close they can come to $20,000.

That's exactly around what I had in mind. I'm a little worried about the 100k in 3 years, is there anything specific that I should look for?

Thanks for sharing, I'm looking for a 2010+ DC Auto and in NC.

You saw the price and mileage though right? It might be worth the trip. And manuals are always better.

I did and it does seem like a great deal. I've been driving a manual car for the past 5 years and my work commute the past year has made me really miss having an auto unfortunately.

When I first saw 2014 and the price I thought it was a typo. I just gave a friend the VIN and had her look up the auction value and she said it's at $21.3k so I doubt they would drop down around $20k.

I would think 100k miles in that short period of time would be mostly highway miles, which would be a good thing. Probably someone with a long commute to work, or maybe a sales rep or something. Have you looked at a Carfax or Autocheck report?

Yep, I've been able to look over both. Both are showing it wasn't used for fleet, rental, etc. and are accident free. I'm thinking you're probably right about it being mostly highway miles. The Carfax only shows one service history record though.

If the dealer is asking 22,800, you offer 20k. If they balk you walk. I've worked at car dealerships since 1990 and I don't smoke. I haven't seen the truck, I'm just basing my advice on the price they are asking. It might be priced fair.

Don't be afraid to look out of state. I found my 2015 last year with 4K miles on it. Flew 1200 miles to get it and drove home in two days. Got what I wanted at a price I could deal with.

Just an FYI, I found mine on cargurus.com by changing my zip code to major areas, but there's other resources out there.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.

I wish that was an option for me. I was planning on buying a new '17 OR this year but decided to get a boat instead so I'm working with a budget.

Oh I'm still planning on checking it out tomorrow and seeing what they're willing to come down.

I cost me a total of $600 to fly one-way, get a hotel for two night and 1200 miles of gas. Consider it in the price of the vehicle.

Just my $0.02, I think that's pretty high mileage for a three or four year old truck which can be good or bad. If it's primarily highway miles and it was maintained it might not be an issue. But if they drove it everyday, all day, around town it could have quite a bit of wear and tear.

Welcome fellow NC brother! What area are you located in? Just a few weeks back I bought a 2015 DC 4x4 TRD Sport with 11,400 miles for $29,500. I did this through the USAA car buying app. Depending on where your located, I would say stick with the Raleigh area. I can feel you that most of the dealerships in the Fayetteville/Raleigh area won't really budge too much on used Tacomas. It took me 4 weeks of intense research to find the truck I bought. Biggest advice is don't settle! Good luck in your Tacoma buying endeavors.
