Before I purchased my first full sized pick up, I test drove similar models of the big three, brand new, in the following order.

Chevy: Stepped in, checked mirrors, and sight lines. Windows seemed really close to my face, headroom sucked and it was difficult to gauge where the front and rear of the truck were. Seats felt cheap, and really un-sprung. The truck drove really well, but felt weak and the transmission felt unsure of what to do. The knobs and switches all felt like they were soon to break or fall off the dash. Turning radius sucked. Parking sucked. $$$$ for such a shitty truck.

Ford: Seats felt great. Sight lines all felt great. Plenty of headroom and was easy enough to maneuver. Plenty of support in the seating, and the truck had plenty of power and the transmission shifted precisely. All interior pieces felt well planted and made out of sturdy materials. $$$$$ (womp womp, out of budget)

Dodge: Easy to maneuver, plenty of headroom, cloth seats well OVER sprung, so plenty of support. Lots of power and transmission shifted well enough, very easy to park and see out of all windows/mirrors. Interior pieces while placed in odd spots, felt more sturdy than the Chevy, but were also made of very cheap materials. $$ Right in my budget.


I ended up buying the Dodge. I regretted it later when the front end started falling apart, the heated mirrors cracked, the exhaust fell off, and gas went up $2 per gallon from $1.50 to $3.50.

Luckily, I traded it off for $5k more than I owed, and the guy sold me my 01 Tacoma (in 2007 mind you) for $13.5k.

 

Got to get them developed?

 

I've had a '76 (used), '79 (used), '96 and '98. Had the same experience. Comfortable but short lived. Best thing about any of them was the Cummins in the '96. Rest of the truck couldn't handle it though save for the rear axle.
