Yup, I'll take a picture of the Eco app screen with the history tomorrow. I did three resets - From stock, to the day I slapped on 285s, then TSB with 1400mi road trip right after, and now with regular city driving again after tsb.

But I did come from a Jeep JK on 37s that got 13mpg and I didn't care then.

My last vehicle was a jeep, the one as my profile pic. I started to get sick of the horrible mpg. 35s and geared at 4.88.

But as to this topic I too am trying to decide on tire sizes between 255/80/17 or 285/70s.

I run 35x12.5x17r km2s dcsb 2017 off road. I still have stock gears it likes to search. Up hill 60mph I'm at 4k rpms in 4th. Dose not hold 5th at all on any type of hill. I get about 15 mpg.. looking to go to 4.88s should fix the searching for gears and get little better mpgs..

I like mine. Looks and performs great, I don't mind the power loss. Anything bigger and I'd regear.
I have quite a bit of lift, 5 up front and 2 in the rear, with e load 285/70/17. I get about 14.0mpg avg when driving impatiently around town. But freeway/ highway at 70mph I can get about 16.0mpg.
My usual tank average is high 14s with mostly short city trips.
    But I'm also a 2nd gen with 4.0L...

If you have an auto which it sounds like you do, 285's aren't bad. I didn't really notice a huge differ by gas mileage of shifting. The shifting sucks to begin with with, 285's didn't change that a whole lot.

315's made it a total pos.

In my case with the v6. 285's were fine. Didn't care to regear. 315's I'm still driving stock (gears in garage) and hate my transmission.

I went through the same debate but what turned me off was:
    - Replacing needle bearing
    - Regearing
    - Lift required.

For the time being I went with 265/75/16's with 1.25" spacers and I really like it. I still may lift it w/ bigger tires some day, but for now this gives me what I'm looking for.

    I have a 2014, 5.7, Tundra double cab 4x4; and I actually get a little more than the 15-16.

But as always, your driving style dictates fuel mileage. I don't actually drive, trying to increase mileage either.

Some do get 15-16 some even less.

its actually makes LESS sense to me...

just from the physics stand point, the weight of the tread being further away has an exponential effect on rolling inertia. the further away you have the extra weight, the more of an effect it will have.

with these different jumps, was the speedo re calibrated? thats a bigger question for truely knowing what the effect was.

285/75/18's. Leveling kit. Had to remove front lower plastic air dam. No other mods. 17 mpg. Speedo off 3 mph at 65 mph.

I guess, to clarify, what made sense to me was that he lost about 4 MPG average when he added 285s from stock. At first I thought he only lost 1MPG which did not seem realistic. Turning a much bigger heavier tire takes a lot more work from the motor, particularly in stop and go traffic.

I have 35's and it's perfectly drivable. It's a truck, not a race car. I'm checking MPG's on this tank (just for fun, before I regear), I'll report back. Anyway...

How much does it cost to have it re-geared after 285's?

About 2 grand in parts and labor, ballpark estimate.
