What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Even my 265/75/16 rub at full stuff without turning. He's gonna rub

 

Yeah, my frame has some nice shiny spots on it from when I started with 265.

 

Ugh, now I really can’t wait for my re-gear in about 2 weeks.

Hows putting in the third? I’ve heard it can be a PITA with that silicone sealer junk on there?

Also hows putting the front clamshell in? Heard it can kinda be a pain too

 

I'm not the one to ask about that. I just paid someone to do it for me.

 

Thinking thats going to be the option for me unless its semi simple..

rear is easy. The FIPG is not that hard. Just don't put too much and clean off all the old shit which is the biggest pain really.

Front is bitch but just because its kind awkward and you have to take apart practically the whole front end of the truck to get it out. Which is also why id never let a shop do it personally.

But not super easy. Not bad though. If you're good with a wrench, you can do it.

 

I'll probably end up giving it a go then.

I've done the front diff on a second gen and the rear on my 1st gen. I'm no artist with a wrench, but I'm not stupid either. Ha ha. Not a difficult process. Just takes some time. Mulitiple sets of hands makes it easier for sure.

 

So I finally got a 5 speed to swap into my double cab, fuck yeah!

Before I start the install this summer what would you guys suggest replacing/upgrading while I'm in there? Flywheel, little Teflon cup thing, short shifter, etc.

 

Jealous! I thought I found two to do mine..

But I'd just do a full clutch kit. Rebuild the slave cylinder too. But otherwise should be good

That seems to be what I've been reading, but I like to punish myself and well if I'm doing this I might as well do that annnndddddd...10 years later I'm fucking @45acp.

Well...one has half lt..the other needs a 5spd. Haha

Idk. Not much to change while the tray is out. Doing fluid and the clutch is pretty much it.

 

I'll trade ya the half Lt for the 5 speed.

We'll see if I even have time this summer to swap, gotta move a machine shop, 6 lathes, 6 Mills, CNC mill, and related equipment.
