I hand washed my truck for the first time the other day. When drying it off, I realized that the exterior left side TRD Off-Road decal is slightly askew, crooked. Prior to noticing this I had considered either removing the decals or purchasing all black ones but for some reason the original decals have grown on me and I like them.

Just curious if any other owners have received their brand new truck with crooked exterior decals? Of course this is not a big deal and an easy fix.

To be honest with you, for the first few days, I thought it was me. I was thinking, am I seeing things? Is it really crooked? Well the dealership assessed it and confirmed, yes it's crooked. The dealer will replace it under warranty.

    Lucky you caught that!

If you did not demand it get fixed it probably would have pushed the nose down on your truck and dug a hole to China adding to the Global warning Frenzia.

Thank you for posting as now I can have suitable case history to also demand my dealer callebrate my side stickers and get top dollar when I trade my truck as soon as the dealership opens.

Okay as previously stated in my original post, it's not a big deal. Demand it get fixed, damn! Where did that come from? I did not demand it get fixed. I took my truck in for the recall check, simply asked the service advisor, hey is this decal crooked? He confirmed it was crooked, we laughed, he offered to replace it right then but I didn't have time. Not a big deal, just sharing a Tacoma story on a Tacoma forum, go figure.

Has that bedside been repainted? That's the first concern I'd have.

No it has not been repainted, it appears that it was installed incorrectly at the factory.

Shitposting is super serious business here in 3rd gen land.

This is a good question. You may have found evidence of a half-assed transit damage repair. As in, loading dock guy scrapes it, off to the body shop it goes, respray, and get the new kid to put the bedside sticker on.

The fact that quicksand is such a tough color to match makes me think it would probably be pretty obvious.

I get what your saying. Where's the thread that dictates what posts are acceptable? What's up with the mindset, "if a reader didn't personally start the thread, it's crap". I see and read numerous threads here but for some reason can't bring myself to post unnecessary negative replies to someone elses thread. What's the point? Swimming in all that negativity is pointless.

Good point. I'll look more into this to be sure. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I would say check to make sure the truck wasn't damaged in transit. If you have a friend with a body shop they could tell you by using one of the handy tools linked below. I would want it fixed but I'm so OCD I should likely be medicated. Well, medicated more...

I have slight OCD as well. I'll surely have it confirmed at a bodyshop that it has not been repainted.

In all seriousness this sucks. I have never seen one crooked from the factory but I'm sure there are some folks that have. The main thing is just to make sure it hasn't been damaged and repainted. You could order another sticker yourself or have the dealer get a new one and put it on for you. Best of luck!

I'm glad you guys brought this up and to my attention, I appreciate it. I'm curious to know if the truck was damaged during shipping, not sure what that information will do for me but would like to know regardless. With the number of Tacoma's on the road and being produced daily I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced crooked exterior bed decals on their new trucks?

    Thanks again for the advice.

If you bought the truck new from a dealer and they sold it to you as new and it had damage, there is a lot you can do. Virtually every state law requires disclosing vehicle damage for a new vehicle.

Yes it was brand new. I had to order and wait for the truck. At the time in my region there were no Quicksand Tacoma's equipped the way I wanted it. I'm hoping this was just a mistake when the decal was applied and nothing more.

Same here with mine. I hope it was just a crooked sticker and nothing more. I would just check to be sure and if it's all good then have your dealer fix it.

Mine was crooked in the passenger side on my 09. I took them both off.

17 looked straight when i bought it but I am not next to it and am now wondering.

I think the Sport looks good clean like that but I like the decals on the OR. Sweet truck, BTW.

Just to throw it out there, I have buffed brand new cars for buyers and discovered body panels with respray jobs. Probably small damage that was repaired before it hit the lot.... Color can match great, but it's kind of hard to tell if you haven't touched a lot of paint. I've learned to read paint pretty well, but your best bet (unless you can do the same) is have someone put a paint thickness gauge on it. If it has been repainted, I'd ask for a new truck or a solid couple grand back of the purchase price.
