Took my truck in for my 15k service, got home looked at my filter and it was caked with mud.

Went back asked for a manager and she then tried telling me it was only changed every 10k miles. We go back and forth a bit and she finally admits I'm right.

To make matters worse I asked for a loaner and was told they didn't have any. When the service tech took me home he told me we were in a loaner car.

I've had good experiences in the past just disappointed this happened.

Either change it yourself or find a new dealer. I don't see the need to post these type of issues. It's a simple solution.

Not reading these if you feel that way is a simple solution as well.

I'd make sure her boss knows about this situation and how this manager lied. If I was the owner of the dealership I would want to know this as well.

If I was the Toyota regional manager I would really be interested to know as well.

Perhaps a letter sent out simultaneously to each person above her head would be the way to go.

    Keep it nice and professional.

If you were stating the dealership and your experience, it would be completely different. I'm not sure if it makes people feel better to just rant about an experience. It's like saying my dealership didn't install the bumpstops correctly after the rear leaf spring recall. What do you expect people to respond? "That's dealership service for you... do the work yourself... this is why you need to check everything over before you leave a shop." Just my opinion.

OP - For those that rely on dealerships to do the job that we paid a premium price for, I for one like to hear real world problems like this when they happen.

Actually if this happened to me I would send out letters as I highlighted above and then post the dealerships name and the name of the idiot that didn't do their job and the idiot manager that covered for him/her. Lord knows what else is going on at that dealership. Put it on Yelp as well.

I like these threads. It justifies my view of not letting dealerships touch my truck for anything but warranty work.

I'd be afraid that it could indicate a culture of either no management or bad management. This ultimately reflects back on Toyota.

Sounds like the oil change guy doesn't like his job and the manager doesn't care for hers either.

I agree... I would take it further and name the dealership. They will continue to cheat others unless the word gets out. Reputation is everything to a new car dealership. There are good ones out there, and a dishonest dealership hurts the brand. Sure, we can all lament dealerships as "stealerships" but when you have a good one, I like to hear about it also. Service departments, other than maybe the finance dept, make a lot of money!

Indeed. I've done everything myself, so far. 35,000 miles and I have changed my own oil every 5k. Changed my diff fluid at 25k and my plugs at 30k. I didn't even want the free oil changes for the first 25. If I can do it... I will do it. Nobody cares about my truck more than I do, so I know the work gets done, and done right.

Personally I would expect douchebaggery and scumbaggery at used car lots...especially the buy here pay here places. But new dealerships I would expect professionalism.

I also understand that dealerships have to make money and that people make a living working in this industry. Hell, I'll even admit that I kind of like the haggle process.

When you think about it, it's one of the ony retail businesses that operate in a free market way. And by free market I mean it is understood by most that the MSRP is the suggested retail price. If you can't get a car for the right price you want, then it's easy to walk away. If the dealer is overloaded on cars then they'll be motivated to move product.

I don't mind grinding it out to get a deal that I think is a fair deal. Toyota products have a high enough resale value that, in my opinion, it makes sense to buy new.

Finance department actually makes a large portion of the money for a dealer.

If they do not provide the correct service for Toyotacare they will not get paid on the claim either.

I'd even be hesitant to get warranty work done, as stupid as that sounds. I've read too many stories of techs that abuse customer cars, forget to put fluids in, forget to reattach trans cooler lines, yada yada.

got my 5 free changes and will never go back. At 30k I went to Mobil1 and a purolator Pure1 filter, and that's what she will get every 6k from now on. Easy service done in my garage.

my 25k service was the worst. Came in with an appointment at 1 PM. At 2:30 I ask if the car is done. Manager comes out and says they're backed up, but will start on it soon. I point out that I had an appointment over 90 minutes ago, and was not told once that it was delayed. His response "Appointments don't mean we work on your car then, it just means we will get to it that day, usually."

Obviously we get into it about that's not how appointments work. They offered me 1 extra free oil change at 30k to make up for it. Hard pass on that.

Dealer is suppose to check your fluid levels too; ALL fluid levels as said on maintenance schedule/work invoice when you finish with your service. They don't check nothing; just oil change. Dealer's are scams especially if they feel like they can get away with it and majority of the times they do. They lied to me that they checked all my fluids for the entire free maintenance period up to 20k miles, changed out my own diff fluids at 20k miles and found out I was missing 1 quart of gear fluid in the rear, so much for checking my fluids right?

When I purchased my truck the rust proofing/undercoating was suppose to be done as worked into the deal; I took it to them after driving the truck for 1 day, I asked the service guy if they washed the frame before coating it; he said yes they do. When I got the truck back after they finished it looked like shit; they didn't wash the frame, I still saw dirt that was sprayed over and I had OVERSPRAY of the undercoating stuff all over the truck from top to bottom. Speckles of dots everywhere all over my truck, on all the windows to the roof.

I went straight back in and spoke with the service tech; told him I was extremely disatisfied because this is a brand spanking new truck and now I got this overspray crap all over the truck. He came out to look at it and said I can re-schedule to have them remove the overspray. I was angry because I lived 62 miles away from the dealership; told him that's not a good enough solution since I'll have to drive all the way back. He handed me a business car to a local detailer who could help me clean the overspray, said they would pay for it. I called the guy and he said he was booked and can't get to my truck for 3 weeks. 3 weeks would mean this crap would've dried up and it'll be nearly impossible to remove. I went right back in and talked to the Service manager; told him his guys didn't tape up my truck to prevent overspray from getting on the paint.

At this point I was angry but I knew I had to keep my cool; talked nicely to the service manager and he said they will get someone on it right away; 3 hours later I get my truck back and the overspray was gone; but the dumbass who buffed the truck burnt through the clear coat on the bottom edge of the door. I didn't want to deal with it and just went home.

An easier solution would be to give them a bad customer satisfaction report. Dealerships live on those reports.
