I was under the impression that toyota got their speedo calculations from the wheel rotation alone, and you didn't need to change any settings with regearing. Is that not the case?

That is correct you do not have to recalibrate the speedo for a gear swap. But I didn't know if Jerry had recalibrated for his large tires. You do have to recalibrate for the tires!

Just making sure! A regearing is pretty high on my list, wanted to make sure i wasn't missing any info...school and work is really getting in the way of picking up overtime to pay for truck parts.

Installed Focal AC speaker upgrade (6) along with an alpine amp. Alarm system too. Sounds fuggin great. Sub woof box is being built and a 10" speaker going behind the driver seat.
So far this thing kicks ass.

Pretty pathetic if after paying several thousand extra for a premium JBL system it still needs to be upgraded because of poor speakers!

I'll definitely have to recalibrate the Speedo which I am doing tomorrow. BUT so worth it. The gear swap is one of the best mods I've done. Truck just feels alive. So much torque on demand and cruises with ease! Costly upgrade but what a difference it makes! With what you've got going on with your truck, you'll see a HUGE change in the performance of your truck. The Speedo is off a bit but gps Speedo shows that it's about 4 to 5 mph faster than what the factory Speedo shows. I'll have more details tomorrow after the recalibration for you.

And yes, SDHQ is definitely an elite shop that does things right. Between the REM polishing, expert install and their own break in, the truck is perfect and without issue. Amazing how much louder the rear end is from the factory. The new gear set is whisper quiet. Pair that with the dynamat and my truck is not far off of a luxury sedan as far as cab noise goes. But yeah, SDHQ installed the gears with absolute perfection and precision. Couldn't be happier. I know I sound like a fanboy but I appreciate quality work and they exceed all expectations every time without fail. Gears can be hit or miss if the installer doesn't know what they are doing but certainly not the case in this instance.

@JerryTaco, My gears are quite niw also. Don't know what happened the first time with the rears, but seem good now. What all did you Dynomat? I was thinking of just doing the 4 doors and rear wall. The guy I know at this stereo shop uses something called road kill. Looks like a good product, any thoughts?

Yeah that's all I did was the four doors and back wall and it made a huge difference, but now I'm kind of itching to throw a few sheets on the floor as well just to totally eliminate road noise. It's about 90% gone now.

I've heard of that and to my knowledge it's also a great product. Definitely would recommend

It's on my list of things to do yet but need to wait a bit. When I was at the shop the other day a guy was leaving there and saying how it made a world of difference and his sound system sounded so much better also, I don't know what vehicle he had it put in though.
