How To Install Optima Battery?

Hi, i just got a optima yellow top and it wont fit in, whats the best way to make it fit, but longer cables, the negative as inches of slack and will fit on whatever side it ends up but the positive cable is way too short, i've searched on here and i guess they just dont fit without modification but i cant seem to find out what exactly the mods to make it fit were, any helps and maybe some pix would be greatly appreciated.

 

What model # did you get?

I just installed a D34/78 and the terminal posts are reversed. I used the sideposts for the factory wires and am using the top posts for my amp. I did have to buy a 15" ground wire for the factory ground but the postive wires stretched without a problem.

For mounting I used the factory tie down but also had to use the supplied plastic spacer from Optima but I just ordered this battery tray.

But maybe it's different for 1st gens???

i've got the yellow top for the first gen, i dont know the number though, the terminals are reversed on mine as well but the negative cable has atleast 5 inches of slack but the positive cable is no where close, how easy is replacing the positive cable?

 

I am not sure how easy it will be to replace the postive cable but you can always extend it. You just got to make sure you extend the correct way with the correct gauge of wire.

 

my bad thats what i meant to say, how do you do that, is it something you buy or cut up myself and add some wire?

 

I put a red top 34R in my sons 02.
No problem just used the spacers to fit it to the stock hold down.

 

the red top 34 fits perfect in the first gens...

for the yellow top, its supposed to be the D35... not sure why the positive cable isn't reaching...

The Red Top **34R** (reversed posts) is the model that fits up on 1995.5 - 2004 Tacos 'as is'. The Red Top model 34 won't, because its posts are in the opposite positions from the OEM setup.

Group 35 batteries also have their posts in the opposite orientation to the OEM setup.
