I love cash on hand more, every month my cashflow is positive because i don't have to write a chech to someone else, the money stays in my account.
And as for the warranty, it be great if warranties were worth the paper they were written on.
    Don't belive me?
Ask @ElCapitan if they have fixed his, or ask Dirty Harry if his TRD OR runs like new or like he expected it to. And they bought the best truck on the market.

I"d hate to see what ppl who bought the competition and have issues are going thru.
Nothing to cheer about there, but now lets focus on the positive, this truck has the best after market support, readily available parts and knowledge base.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers

Stealerships have been hounding me ever since I made the mistake of price-searching 2017 Tacos. I finally replied to one: I will update if he replies.

    Stealer:
"If you are still considering a new vehicle we want to do whatever we can to keep you informed on new specials and other promotions. We're very motivated to earn your business. If you have any questions, now, or in the future, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Family owned and operated since 1966. Our competitive advantage is our straight forward, Family oriented atmosphere and treatment of our customers. We deliver superior value by offering professional, friendly and fun service at a competitive price. In addition to great service and upfront low prices you may also receive the following benefits with your new vehicle purchase:

    - 10 YEARS COMPLIMENTARY LUBE, OIL AND FILTER CHANGES - $1000 Value
-$500 PREMIUM DISCOUNT CARD & PRIVILEGE". Ahh gosh, really? All for me?

    Me:
Ok, I'll reply with this: Lots of info out there on recalled rear-diff's, on the 2016 Taco, and new 2017's are not out of the woods either. Now I hear 2018's will mostly be assembled in Mexico, cheaper costs for you are great, a cheaper product is not so great for us. Toyota seems to be going cheap when they have the best-looking and equipped Mid Size out there. Unfortunately, I feel more comfortable dealing with my current 1998 PreRunner with 240k, and cannot take a risk on a new Taco right now. More info on the 2018 Engine Specs is what I really need, before I shop any further.

See, nice and calm post here. Take er in, have er torqued, updated software maybe, some parts ordered. Now a follow up of termaesam's service experience is all I need to make a decision on a new Taco. Let us know how she drives, etc, howling noises, etc...

Also, a question to the more mechanically inclined: Can't we torque the bolts? Order the gasket and replace it? Or is the tranny software-shifting issue the reason for taking her in to the dealer?

Toyota dealer has no Legal right to seize your truck prematurely even before receiving your recall notice for the issue, they also have no legal right to seize or hold your vehicle from you if it had a recall of any type if you don't wish them to, its private property. If you dont agree to those terms you are free to take your truck out of the dealer and decline the Loaner car. And wait to receive your recall notice in June.

Just go to a stealer near you, pick the color and options you want, take it on the hwy and side streets and if you like the vehicle act like you're not impressed. Sit with them and ask for their best price and when you get it right, go for it.

When you get home don't come to this site, stay away and enjoy your vehicle. Transmission's fine, great in fact and I have 20k+ miles of FuN driving it no issues. All it needs is about 1200 miles for break-in to learn your driving style.
Don't worry about the update either, you don't really need it if you give it the time and don't fret, and it won't really change much anyway, it's all much ado-bout nothing. I did not even check the ATF level fluid on mine, works great. But if do you have it checked, you're taking a chance they'll get it wrong or overfill it, just like they can't get the right torque lbs on the rear diff fasteners and you'll forever have problems with it just like some individuals have here and cry about it all the time. True story.

As for replacing the rear diff gasket yourself, don't. It's not that easy for the DIY It should be done by an experienced tech as on this type diff the axles need to come out, axle shafts inspected and checked for burs (were seal rides) and new axle seals should be installed as axle removal causes stress as the shaft is slid out, along with new diff gasket to avoid axle(s) leaking later down the line. You then need to add the correct diff oil level without overfilling or you'll have the same issue again.
The whole job should take about a few hrs, give or take some can half that for a train professional with all the proper tools and equipment.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Correct, they can't just take it without your consent.
When I took my '13 yr old T4R in to check for a new dash replacement under warranty, the s/a asked me if I would let them do ecm update on to address a "possible" sudden acceleration issue and I told them I may let them do it when I returned to get the dash replaced and gave them the ok a few weeks later....That was a mistake on my part, but that's a story for another forum.

The recall is for automatic trucks without differential lock. These trucks use M8 hardware and get torqued to 18 ft-lb. Manual transmission models and trucks with differential lock use M10 hardware and get torqued to 33 ft-lb.

It's always possible for a gasket to leak, so if you have a leak and your truck is not part of the recall, it's just a normal warranty repair like it always would have been.

I have my final update. Toyota corp said and the dealer told me yesterday that the officially, they have a 'fix' but no parts. ETA on parts was sometime in June. Because the recall went from 'pending' to 'fix available', I was able to sell the truck to the dealer where I have the recall done at. The acquisition manager came out to the service department, looked at the truck - took some pics, and made me an acceptable offer.

My only issue now is, the sale process took a few minutes, and I only had to sign 2 documents - I have released all interest in the truck, but yet my check won't be available for me to pick up til next thursday?! You would think a big dealer would be able to cut me a check right then and there.

Anyways, it's been a fun ride here, and i'll miss my Tacoma for sure.

Any time that I have sold a vehicle to a dealer, the check was in my hand in minutes.

I'll drink to that Thanks for the info. I'm in a great spot, like you said I can take the best offer, and I'm surrounded by dealers. I have some inheritance coming, so the plan was to replace the old Taco with new. Just want to get the right new one.

Don't think they can sell it because recall is not done. It's a Toyota dealer. I think they will sell the truck on their lot.

Took my 17 OR in this morning and was told that they would have to contact Toyota NA to get a solution since it was a warranty issue not recall. They have had one in on recall and replaced the bolts and gasket and suggested that would most likely be the fix for mine.
