Sorry, I bet the low range switch in the t-case is dead. Start diagnostic with that switch or do a grey wire mod

I think we checked for voltage on pins 2 and 3. If the diagram I was looking at those two should swap polarity to run the motor one way or the other. Didn't have any voltage there though.

I forgot about this. So did we determine the motor wasn't getting power?

The motor will never get power from that ECU if there is no low range input

    bingo

I bet ^^^ he is right. Sending unit on the low range is dead. Or corroded..or something.

grey wire mod should fix it.

Forgive my ignorance, but how does the grey wire mod fix this? For my own knowledge.

it basically by passes the low range sending switch.

So from the factory, Toyota didn't want you to use the Locker unless you were in Low range. They put a switch on the Tcase to that when you go to low range, voltage is sent to the E locker motor.

If your in 4wd high range. You can't lock the locker due to this.

By doing the grey wire mod, it bypasses the switch. You ground out the control(its a ground switch) so now you have voltage to the e locker all the time(well, when the truck is on). Thus, now you can lock the axle in 2wd, 4wd high or 4 low when ever the hell you feel like it.

Surprised you haven't done it really!

Thanks for the low down, Monte.

I never felt I needed the locker outside of 4lo (and still really don't), thus I never did the mod. If it'll fix my switch issues it's definitely worth a shot. I'll dig into it tonight once I have some time and see if that gets me locked again!

*Edit: And thank you Brian for the input and advice! @thefatkid

Noobish question. Does the rear locker light flash or stay lit with the grey wire mod?

It will stay solid when it locks. That's the only way you know it locked with or without the grey wire mod. If your locker just keeps flashing at you, your actuator is likely busted.

@alee891 with the grey wire mod you can do dumb shit like this :anonymous:

Yeah always flashing is indicative of an issue. Hmmm.

Yes, my light continuously flashes when the locker is engaged. This is normal from what I've seen.
Otherwise that may be the source of my problem. My light has always blinked for as long as I've had the vehicle.

I think Mikes blinks too. @Digiratus but can't remember.

It is supposed to blink if it isn't locked though.

    wow. That is crazy.

Wouldn't think that lil computer would be fired..but maybe it is. Worth swapping with someone else's local to test it anyways.
