Do you need to know, or care?
Isn't that what these forums are all about? Kissing each other's ass would be boring.

I've stayed away from the forum for the simple fact of the constant negativity. I love my truck.

I'm not going to comb through 15 pages of bitching but here's my add.

I've been driving this truck for a year and it's my 3rd Toyota. It's by far my favorite. In 1 year, I've spoken to probably a dozen or so owners in parking lots and in the dealership waiting room. They all love their trucks, without exception. I have a buddy who was vehicle shopping and was scared by the posts on Tacomaworld. After talking to me, we had a laugh about Tacomaworld and he went and bought a '17 TRDOR. He loves it.

I think those with problems are a VERY vocal minority of owners.

I think I've started figured out this truck. Yes, the trans is weird. But I still love the truck.

Step 1 - DONT leave the display on fuel economy. Leave it on anything but. You don't be trying to be light on the throttle to maintain "good fuel economy"

Step 2 - GRADUALLY increase the throttle on acceleration.. I've noticed the truck accelerates better to speed in doing this rather than dumping into low rpms right away. (part of this theory has to do with NOT watching the economy gauge like a hawk)

Step 3 - Buy a prius if you want good mileage.

Step 4 - What OP said.

Just wanted to share my experience.

My 3rd gen, currently waiting to get checked for rear diff issues and recall next week.

    Had transmission issues
    Gearing concerns
    LowPower
    Not great mpg

Faulty camshaft sensor that left me in the middle of a busy road till someone helped me push her to the side and get towed.

But to be honest Toyota has taken care of it every time. I went into the dealership with a general concern for my vehicle.. not over demanding anything knowing the service guys can only do so much since there's someone above them. they have taken care of me every time at multiple dealerships as long as I gave them the respect I wanted in return. My truck runs great, I've done my own due diligence on certain problems like ecgs bushing for vibration and just bringing the truck in for recommended tsb and maintenance.

Haven't seen any reason to be ridiculously mad. I love my truck, Toyota will work out its kinks.

zr2 looks ugly lol my two cents
And the new ranger is cool, but I'll keep my taco.

I had a leak from the cam sensor at 3800kms that keep my truck at the dealer for almost a month. Was still sweating until 22000kms when toyota provided a "proper fix" for it

Originally they thought it was the valve cover. So it took almost a month to get that in apparently.

It wasn't until the dealer had one more truck come in with the same leak that they started pushing to toyota about the issue.

I'm not 100 % sure what they ended up doing but it doesn't leak or sweat now. Total time in shop was 36 days, frustrated but happy its fixed.

I've only had my Taco for 2 weeks and 400ish miles on her. I like my truck. Since joining this forum, I too have noticed quite a bit of negativity towards the "Turd Gen".

I understand there are a some folks on here who just got the shit end of the stick with their Taco and it sucks and there are folks who are just plain pessimists. But, I also believe forums like these support multiple functions. Its a place to gain tons of information on your truck as well as a place for folks to bitch and moan about anything they please.

In the end, the bitching will continue, its a public forum. Its up to the individual as to whether or not they let the negative posts bother them. For me, I could care less, Im here for the entertainment (whether positive or negative) and informational value a forum like this provides.

First time Toyota anything owner and I got a new '16 Taco almost a year ago. There are some legit gripes with the AT. The downshifts while stopping would have put me through the windshield at least a few time if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. They were that eradic. That was gone after 1500 miles.

The gear searching up/down, needed two TSBs and it's decent now. Not ideal, but decent. On uphills I would go from 45 down to 20 mph on the hills on my commute, with adequate constant pressure and no downshift. Other times shifting was up, down, up, down to the point I would put the pedal to the floor to stop it.

The last TSB remedied 90% of the shifting, except for on hilly highways were it holds 4th gear too long. The problem is 5th gear is too low of a gear.

I can now say I really like almost love this truck even with the rocky first 6 months. Love the looks in and out. Handles great. Needs a better gear ratio which would fix the now occasional 4-5-6 gear searching and it would be perfect. I'm happy overall with my Taco and would recommend to a friend.

I don't think that's what people are tired of hearing. It's the people who show up after ANY positive comment just to trash talk. It has become pathological for some users. They aren't happy with their truck and that's okay, but some seem to be obsessed with getting others to be just as disappointed as they are. Also, some just do it to watch the world burn...

I agree.. Some body gets a new 3rd gen, they are stoked on it, they put up one post about their new truck and their thread gets hi-jacked.

I really can understand the frustration about the trans. It's a result of stricter emissions and mpg requirements. The tsb stuff is just a band aid on a transmission that wants to behave like a cat.

Every new gen has problems when they roll out. The first round of buyers are the guinea pigs (lol) and they're taking one for the team!

Bottom line, IF YOU HATE IT SELL IT!

When u puts the fluid in the fill hole it comes out when the transmission is full. If u open the fill hole and no fluid is present or no fluid can be felt when putting your finger in the hole your probably low

No way, don't look at it! PNW is horrible, people are rude, laws are worse than under communism, weather is miserable, we have no food or beer, and you shouldn't come here.
