WINCHING

Has anyone used a trailer hitch mounted winch? I don't like most of the bumpers that are out now and don't wheel a lot, but when I do I'm alone, so I'm needing a winch. Been looking at the hitch mounted one's where I could use front and rear.

 

Why not a hidden winch in your bumper?

 

Yep, people do it and love it. @Mobtown Offroad makes the front hitch mount for these trucks. It can be a pain to get out in the mud and hook it up though.

I've got a Relentless Fabrication Low-Pro bumper that's pretty close to "stock" looking. All things considered, I'd go with a hidden winch for the next round, with the same kind of flip-up front license plate mount I've got now.

 

The low Pro bumpers don't look bad, but personally they look better on the 4-runners. I do like the fact they remove the giant chin on the 3rd gens lol

Look at my front bumper. I have a @CBI Offroad Fab hidden winch mount run through a farelead in the bumper.

How difficult to mount these? What size winch do they hold.

 

It's pretty easy... it's all bolt on.... I run the Warn Zeon 8s, but you can easily get a 10k in there. There's so much room between the front bumper and your radiator. Just have to trim a little black plastic trim on the inside, but it's not there for anything

 

Does it come with the farelead?

 

The winch will, yes. Only thing you may have to buy is the winch line. That being said there all deals all the time with it included

Very nice. I've been debating between full bumper replacement, lopro bumper, and hidden winch. The CBI looks great and presumably is the cheapest.

 

If you go hidden winch, you'd need one with synthetic line to get a hawse fairlead like that. The steel cable requires a roller fairlead. Not a bad thing though because you save weight too.

Ok forgive the noob question.. how hard is it to access the winch? I assume there's some kind of mechanical control like a clutch or something on the side of it. Pic from the top down?

I didn't measure it before, but I didn't notice any. Adding bigger tires made up for it though.

 

Trucks in the shop now so I can't get any pics. Having gears installed. Warm offers two option either a plug in remote that connects to the top of the winch or a blue tooth remote. It's pretty simple just plug and play
