I took mine in today. It's not on the recall but is seeping. They ordered the gasket and sent me on my way.

Uggh. Took a picture last night. Took it in today. They told me there's a leak and gave me a Camry. I asked for a Tacoma. They said they were all out of Tacomas. No estimated time to fix.

Not really surprised based on others' experiences (thank you everyone), but was hoping this would be under the threshold.

    '16 SR5, 17K.

Oh well. Less miles on my truck, is the way I'm looking at it, otherwise I'd be too bummed.

To add insult to injury, there was a beautiful Tacoma in front of me most of the way home.

And don't forget to take all of your shit out of the truck in preparation, like garage door opener, charger, etc.

    +2
I drove a friends '16 SR5 stock, 2wd after CPS sensor change, and it felt funky with the stock tires, mine's got '17X8" rims on Goodrich's and it's steady like a rock around turns and straight driving big difference in shock/suspension feel also

This could be a thread in and of itself...the crappy loaner car thread.

New to the forum. So pissed off about the recall. Thanks for all your messages.
Took my 2016 Tacoma in today 15,000 miles. Now holding my truck hostage. At least they gave me a loaner truck. According to most of you...your right. Dealer has no idea how long it will take.
I will be demanding a swap for a new one on Monday. I have to wait for a rep from Toyota to call me back.

Bummer. I hope it works out in a timely fashion.

What are asking for swap wise? A new diff? Curious.

Lol. Just ask for a truck man, say you need it for some reason. After they tried to shove me into a prius with my rear diff replacement on the 16 I made sure to let them know I need a truck for my bike, etc.

20170506_205947.jpg 20170506_205310.jpg My differential was dry but took in my 2017 sport prerunner into the dealer today. I went to Mossy Toyota in Pacific Beach, CA for my first oil change at 5k miles today. My VIN was also on the recall list. Per recall protocol, they inspected the differential which was dry so, yes they just re-torqued the differential. Everything else checked out fine and I was sent on my way. I did see a TRD pro tundra, TRD pro Tacoma, and lastly a TRD pro 4 runner out front of the dealer which was kinda neat. I was blown away that they wanted $54k for the pre-owned Pro 4runner. But, I also remember this was the same dealer that tried to sell me the same truck I own for $5k over MSRP when I first went shopping for a Tacoma. Good thing I didn't buy from them. Well good luck to you fellow Tacoma owners with the leaking differentials.

Glad things are good for you!

For your knowledge the leak would happen on the "front" side of the diff. Where the studs hold the carrier in. So when/if you want to keep an eye on it you'd check the other side from your first pic.
