given its plug and play, just unplug and pretend it was never there lol.

They mention on their FAQ that it can't due to Magnusson Moss act. But I feel like dealer will say it does. Hence just unplug and don't let them know.

guessing this will also hurt MPG too then. Part of the reason the new trans shifts so much is to stay in a lower RPM to maximize MPG.

I'm going pass on this one. Sounds good an sure it works. But, Toyota has more money an time to prove that this after market product is cause of my transmission failure. Regardless if it caused it of not.

Will use of this device void my warranty? Per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act (US Federal Law - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312), It is illegal for a vehicle manufacturer to void the warranty or deny coverage on a warranty because an aftermarket part was used on the vehicle unless a failure is a direct result of the use of that aftermarket product, and the OEM must prove how. While the shift-commands are highly optimized and continually calculated, the Shift Sense Pro does nothing with the vehicle beyond the normal capabilities of the Sequential-shift mode of operation. Additionally, it reduces the number of shifts made by the transmission by 60-75%.

But that would only be possible if you let them know you had it.

Bring it in, remove it so they dont know.

I agree this would actually be super easy for the dealer to say it was the cause. Espeically if any problem that you go in for under transmission is gone as soon as this is unplugged.

I've heard from numerous transmission specialist though that always using the torque converter control mode is not necessarily good for the transmission. It won't destroy it, but it could prolong the liftspan of said transmission. And I know of people who have owned cars that had a torque converter controller like these where you can shift gears that used it all the time because they thought it made them cool cause they thought it was like driving a manual that had their transmission shit the bed really early.

a single shift over to S mode limits high gear to 4, correct?

does this device take over and move it 5th/6th, should it need it?

Anytime your transmission is shifting back an forth in high gears. It causes heat build up. That why they say to do not pull heavy loads in overdrive.

Initially this sounds good, but could have adverse affect on tranny long term. I'm kinda surprised this isn't getting the neg responses as the sprint booster ect...no thanks I'll pass on this

If this controller resulted in less shifting it would seem that it would indeed help tranny live longer. But, I'm not doing it. Because of warranty purposes. I be watching an see how this pans out.

Not necessarily. If it's forcing gears to stay longer than was intended under manufacturing it could result in uneven wear on those gears.
I feel this will wear out the clutches faster

Will this stop the torque convertor from locking up ? From what I thought I read , when using S mode the torque convertor will not go into lockup mode. Heat builds up more and faster when the convertor does not lockup ( which is the same as always slipping ?)

Just to clarify on some of your questions.. This device is not a torque-convertor controller does not prevent the torque convertor from locking up at all, it will continue to lock-up completely normal as it does with any S-mode operation. If you test-out your truck in S4,S5,S6, you will be able to feel the lockups occurring. By the way, Toyota has a temperature-function built into the Gen3 Tacoma which prevents lockup if the temp is less than 158F, (to allow the tranny to come up to operating temp quicker). Some of you may have noticed this if you are starting out for the first couple miles on a cold day. After that, it will lock up as it should. Personally, I would expect the transmission to run cooler because continually shifting up and down (as OEM) does require the torque convertor to unlock and slip through each shift, which produces heat. This is especially apparent when pulling a trailer, which this device will hold gears much better than OEM, and will generally limit shifts to 6th at all if you are under ~77 mph, or have any appreciable throttle into it.
