Yeah, if you are locked in on the Pro then you're facing a dilemma. I have searched and made offers on numerous Pros since April 1 all over the southwest and no dealership will let one go for less than 4k over MSRP, with many asking 6k-12k over. I got tired of waiting to see if things would get better since I had actually started my search back in Jan. and I finally bit the bullet and got my cement Pro two days ago. I had to buy out of state and have it shipped but still paid $3,700 over MSRP. That's something I swore I would never do in my life.

if you don't mind paying shipping or driving look at dealers in nor cal. they have manuals up there and already post below msrp.

you can also find a dealer that will order you one if you're that patient.

Like I said...you must search each individual dealer's website.

Open up your excel and create new spreadsheet.

Open up google maps, and type in "Toyota dealership"

Now in your spreadsheet, type in every single toyota dealership you'd be willing to travel to in SoCal to complete a great deal.

Then visit each dealer's website, and use the filters to see what they have on the lot in your configuration and color. It helps if you know the model number and first 6 of the vin to make sure you are looking at the right vehicle. For instance, I know off the top of my head that if I'm looking for a Tacoma Double Cab TRD Off Road 4x4 V6 Auto Trans, the model number is 7544 and the first 6 of the vin will be 3TMCZ5. All usually show "stock numbers", which doesn't mean much to you. Some show VIN's, and some show model number. Some dealers use wrong "stock photos" of say a DC TRD OR short bed, when the VIN or model number shows it is actually a long bed. Or a sport. Some show a quicksand tacoma when it is actually a freakin' white tacoma. You've got to know your VIN's, model numbers, and sometimes color codes to make sure they have what you're looking for. Pulling up an online VIN decoder to verify doesn't hurt either.

On the day you start your shopping, search again. Then note on your spreadsheet what dealer has your configuration, and with what options. Then call them and follow up with email asking for their bid for the truck you want.

It is cumbersome at first. Do the searches on each dealer's website a couple times a week for a few weeks, and you'll be a pro in short order. After a week or two, you'll breeze through every dealer in SoCal in under an hour, and know exactly what they have on their lot...give or take 8 hours or so for dealer website updates.

Easy? Not so much. But not that hard either. Toyota's website, and the process in general is designed to make sure you DON'T get the best deal, and by design points you to your closest dealer, no matter if they have your truck on the lot, or if it's 50 miles away. Hint....you won't get the best deal by dealing with a dealer who must complete a "dealer trade" to get the vehicle you want. Especially after you have already contacted the dealer with the truck you want, and they KNOW you are the guy searching for this truck.

You contact 8 SoCal dealers for a specific vehicle, and only one of them has it...guess what? You're probably getting a shitty deal on that truck, because the 7 dealers who don't have it are going to be contacting the one that does.

Getting a number of dealers who all have the vehicle you want on their lot bidding against each other is the best way (not the only way...but likely the best way) to get a chance at a truly decent deal. But you have to pit the right dealers against each other.

There are guys on this forum who could surely "walk into a church and talk a nun out of her panties" as we used to say back when I was a narc working dope (cop in drug enforcement). They can probably walk into a stealership and get a smoking deal. I'm not one of them. And the guys that can are few and far between. Or just get lucky and catch a desperate dealership on exactly the right day.

If all of that is too much hassle to deal with, Costco and USAA (if you're a member) can both get you fairly respectable "I didn't just take it in the ass because I had to have this truck" kind of deals unlike the asshats who walk into a showroom and pay MSRP (or more) because they bought some floor salesman's bulllshit because they had a chubby for the pretty truck.

Do your research and get a really good deal, or just save your time and go Costco or USAA and get a fair deal without getting completely ass raped. What is your time worth? If your time is too valuable to spend hours researching, just go Costco and be done with it. For me, I was pretty much dead set on a below invoice deal. Because I have never paid but a few bucks above invoice before, and yes, also because some cocky floor salesman laughed at me and said it could never be done when I went in for a test drive. I can afford to pay, at this point in my life, MSRP for a damn Tacoma. Wasn't going to do it though. Won't give these damn dealerships the satisfaction of being the next sucker they ushered out the door with a vehicle they paid too much for.

I wouldn't even ordinarily go into this kind of detail, but in SoCal we are at a serious disadvantage compare to many other places. Too many people with more money and ego than brains, and the dealers know it. That's why they are getting (in some cases) $10k over for a fucking TRD Pro, and anywhere from MSRP to $5k over for a TRD OR here. Hey....to each his own. If you've got bucks to burn to spend that kind of premium on a truck you want....great. But me? I see $5k or $10k pissed away that could have gone towards King Racing coils, rear leafs, winch bumper, winch, rims, tires, etc....

Having said that....if I just HAD TO HAVE a cement colored Tacoma (only available in Pro), and wouldn't be satisfied with less, would I spend over MSRP or more to get it? Quite possibly if every time I looked at my white or quicksand tacoma all I could think about was "the cement Tacoma I was too cheap to pay a few $k more for but wouldn't".

At the end of the day, it's your cash. If it makes you happy, the price you put on that...nobody else should be able to take that away from you. Me? I love cement colored Tacos. I also love quicksand enough that I wasn't going to pay an additional $10k to $15k to get cement, only to rip out the suspension and put on King coils anyway!

Would I have settled for white even if I could have saved an additional $1k for exactly the same truck? Not a chance in hell!

Signed the P&S today. 2017 TRD Sport, ACLB, 4x4, V6 6MT. V6 tow package and carpet floor mats. MSRP: $34,547, Invoice(best I can calculate): $32311

Sale price: $30,404. I took a little bit of a hit on my trade, but $18,500 was reasonable as far as I'm concerned. Their document fee is also a little crazy at $429, but oh well.

With any luck I will be picking it up next weekend.

Great post, just the info I've been searching for. I'm in Long Beach CA and in the market for a new Tacoma. I price-searched some sites a few weeks ago and got cell-bombed by phone calls and emails, so I learned real quick that the '17s could be a necessary inventory-offload. The prices will fall as we get closer to the '18 announcements, they have to a bit no? Anyhow, I can wait until my V6 blows. So I want to make a deal with a local stealer: Service my '98 back to the good life, loaner truck too, test drives of the '17s and the upcoming '18s, and I will Buy (with a Check for full purchase price) a 2018 from that stealership's lot. Can't make my price? I drive my '98 off the lot. Naive? Maybe. I can play their game for now.

    Auto/manual, 4wd/2wd? Regardless you're at least $2000 below invoice.

Good deal for a bare bones truck. Nice.

Average American Can No Longer Afford “Average-Priced” New Car or Truck

The average median-income household can no longer afford to purchase the “average-priced” new car or truck in 24 of the country’s 25 largest metro areas, according to a new study by the financial website Interest.com.

Consumers are also spending more on cars and trucks than ever before, and racking up larger monthly payments and loan terms than they ever have.

In fact, the average U.S. household today can’t really afford the average-priced new vehicle. So, instead of buying new cars that are consistent with their means, consumers are piling on huge long-term debt for that new-car smell.

New data from Experian shows that the average loan term for a new car in the U.S. is 68 months. That is an all-time high. It's also an average, which means some desperate consumers are taking eight years to pay off a new vehicle. The average amount financed is $30,032, the first time that amount has gone over $30,000. And the average monthly loan is $503, the first time the amount has gone over $500.

Such debt for a depreciating asset is not healthy for consumers, or smart.

Too many families are spending way too much on new cars and trucks,” said Mike Sante, managing editor of Interest.com. “Just because you can manage the monthly payment doesn’t mean you should let a $30,000 or $40,000 ride gobble up such a huge share of your paycheck.”

New cars and trucks are at record overpriced levels compared to median wages. You see, that 0% "Cheap Money" financing is really a fraud perpetrated on the masses by Central Banks and Wall Street money changers.

All this "Cheap Money " artificially inflates prices exponentially against wage growth. The money printers have done the same thing to housing and stocks.

All the of benefits of printing debt out of thin air go to Wall Street money changers, banks and large shareholders.0% Money only benefits the first in line feeders at the top.By the time the "Cheap Money " trickles down to the herd the cost of goods have been artificiality inflated with no wage growth.

Also factored into the record prices are the practically subprime financing tactics banks are lending at, not just the 0 apr. People getting more car and more frequently because the dealer will do anything to move vehicles and lenders more than happy to qualify anyone. So used car market may be a good value in a few years.

Another thing, cars are lasting a lot longer on the road today. 25 years ago, I'd be hesitant to keep a car much past loan term or 160k mi and now 100k is barely breaking the car in and people are keeping them for a decade easily. If that's the case, I'd spring a few thousand more for a more comfortable ride.

Auto Bubble Burst Begins As Subprime Delinquencies Soar To 2009 Levels

More than a million US consumers have fallen at least two months behind on car loan repayments as the delinquency rate reaches its highest level since 2009, in the latest sign of stress in the $1.1 TRILLION Dollar Market

The rise in bad loans comes despite persistently low borrowing costs and unemployment levels suggesting lenders may be letting consumers take on bigger debt burdens than they can handle. Lending to consumers with weak credit scores has been one of the fastest growing parts of the industry.

There should be a lot of repossessed newer inventory hitting the market this year and next.

If your tax rate is 9.5 or so, sounds like you are damn close to invoice (don't have my pricing sheets so can't say for sure, but at that tax rate if you're out the door close to sticker, and there arent b.s. over inflated dealer add ons, you are close to invoice).

If you like the truck, I don't think you're getting bent over on a deal like that in SoCal.

And when you say "out the door" you mean drive off price, tax, DMV, destination, all dealer fees included, correct?
