same here, especially 1 to 2. with decent rpm you can kinda surge into 2nd. without decent rpm it feels like it's gonna be a long day.

Yes. Mine sounds like the starter keeps cranking for a split second even though the engine started. Mine only does it when warm and then doing a quick restart. What I mean is if I drive a ways and then shut off the truck for a minute or two, on the restart it will happen. Not always though so I have not brought it to the dealer so they can say it's normal and probably caused by my tires.

That's the exact scenario where I hear the clunk. When I shut it off and start it up again right away.

You guys have either been driving diesels or slow-turning push-rod machines and have likely been thinking that 3000 is a Red-Line. This 3.5 is indeed a high winder. Keep the R's below 3000 and you think you are driving a slug, the area between 3 and 6 K is where all the fun is. Don't be afraid to go there. Toyota started changing this equation with the introduction of VVT.

When my friends ride with me they always say something like "dude it's a truck you need to use your low end torque".

    It's more like an s2000

yeah, but the issue is the vvt surge at 3500. i hate it. either give me the power or don't, but don't have it blip on like that. so i shift just under the surge. hopefully the incoming OV tune will rectify that. I'm hoping to see VVT power across most of the range without sudden surging.

Since I bought my truck, every tank has been better.
    16.9 MPG
    18.8 MPG
    19.1 MPG
    22.6 MPG

I haven't changed my driving habbits from one tank to another. It's the same commute too.
The 22.6 caught me by surprise. I checked, then checked again. Yep, it's right.
I may shit myself in excitement if it gets any higher, lol. I don't expect it to though.

I'm loving this, especially since I was used to getting 14.5-15.5 out of my Silverado.

My overall average seems to be right around 20 mpg, my best single trip was around a 30 mile drive and it said I did 25.4 mpg.

I just traded in the '13 DCSB PreRunner Sport (auto) for a '17 DCSB OR manual! In the last truck, I had snagged a deal and bought the only automatic vehicle that I've ever owned, and I'm glad to be back to 3 pedals. First tank MPG was 18.48, a testament to the fun factor. Can't wait to break it in and then drive with even more enthusiasm.

A crappy dealership snapshot is better than no pic, eh?

Picked this up a couple weeks ago but forgot about this thread! Anyways, its a 2013 v6 4x4 6 speed DCSB in Barcelona red. I've been used to driving around in my 5spd 4cylinder, so the difference in power makes this much more fun to drive! Thought I was going to have to go out of state to find a double cab with a 6 speed, but lucked out and found one within 100 miles from me. Shifts like butter, love the 6spd so far. From what I can tell, its extremely similar in all aspects to my mom's 6spd FJ (which makes sense since they're the same trans).

I am having the same EXACT issues. I did a bit of wheeling the other day and while im going up hill it starts bogging, so to counter I apply more throttle and it doesn't do SHIT. Also the whole random bucking around 1700rpm is getting a bit annoying.

    Mostly stuff I built.
The Desert Rat is correct E0 fuel fixes most of the hesitation issues. At 1700 rpm you are right on the threshold of the injector cut for engine braking out as well. The valve and ignition timing maps on these engines are kind of throw off for low speed high load situations. They are designed that way for the highway not the trail. I find my self using 4low a lot while off road to supplement the low end performance on this engine.

Edit: on a side note the traction control kills out a lot of the low end on these trucks as well. Constantly pulling timing and applying the brakes on take off.
Turn it off and go drive your truck you will see what I mean.

I actually find adding throttle often makes it WORSE! Like the truck thinks I've made some huge mistake and it's going to save my life.
