    Hello everyone,

I am thinking about getting a different set of wheels, but having a hard time finding any that have an appropriate amount of backspacing/offset to make the tall/skinny (255/80R17) ST Maxx's sit where they do now: even with the outer edge of the flare.

Beyond looking at particular brands/styles I like, I've tried Summit, 4Wheelparts, DiscountTires, TireRack, WheelPros, NationalTW...

    Current wheels:
    Tundra/Sequoia split spoke
    17x7.5
    +18mm Offset
    5" Backspacing

Due to the large factory backspacing and positive offset, I've ran these with 1.25" wheel spacers so they don't sit so far inward and rub the frame while turning.

This 1.25" spacer, by my calculations, brings the +18mm offset to -14mm, and the 5" backspacing to about 3.75".

I'm having a hard time finding a 17" wheel (8-8.5" width) that comes close to these specs. Seen some 4.5" BS, and some -10 to -12 offsets, but nothing that replicates the current dimensions.

Is there a wheel brand out there that has similar specs, or does everyone just end up running wheel spacers on high BS wheels to push the tires off the frame? Suggestions?

I believe SCS F5's come in 17x8.5 with 3.5 BS but other than that nothing comes close without spacers.

Not sure if this helps or not. But I'm running 34x9.50x15 super swampers on regular old style white spoke wheels 8x15 with 4" back spacing.
    Zero rubbing anywhere.

SCS makes great stuff, but I'm not a fan of the F5s style. Plus it's 9" wide, and I'd like to stay under that for a better bead seal with the skinny tires. Thank you, though!

Thank you, but I think there are a few too many variables between our rigs, wheels and tires for that to give me much help. Sounds like a cool truck, though!

That's odd. They look fairly flush with the flares. No wheel spacers? Do they rub at full turn?

Must be a 1st to 2nd gen difference :notsure:

If I ran these wheels without the wheel spacers, they'd be very inset from the fenders and rub a lot on the frame before full turn on both sides.

    Sharp looking rig, btw!

Thanks, A buddy here turned me on to them they're pretty hard to find around here. I, like you. was looking for some wheels to put tall skinnies on and drawing a blank. I went out to dinner with another buddy one night and he said he was selling his Tundra ao I swapped him my steelies with new tires for them. We put them on Justin's truck with 285/75/17's and he did have to get wheel spacers to clear the aftermarket uca's.

Lil off topic so the tundra wheels with 285/75/16s tires rubbed on the ucas? Or the steelies. Reason I ask was looking for some of these tundra/Sequoia wheels and was hoping to not have to add spacers with 285s

I'm sorry 285/75/17's 34x11.5 He has a square tube uca like the Icon billet one and the tires rubbed on them. Probably not an issue with tubular ones but I don't really know

I didn't think about another Toyota wheel, thanks for the heads-up!

Are these the wheels you're referring to? Having a hard time finding the specs on them, but it seems they have a +4mm offset?
If that's the case, they'd still pull the tires in 3/4" per side. Better than the Tundra wheels by themselves, but still too far inset to avoid rubbing without the spacers.

From the sound of it, these would probably work great on the 2nd gen Tacomas/4th gen 4Runners, but it doesn't seem to be translating over to the 1st gen Taco geometry.

Maybe you're right? I'm going off a wheel calculator online:

As for the steelies, I've used them before and love their durability, but I'm trying to save some weight where I can, so I'll be sticking with alloys.

Without taking a wheel off and checking myself, :notsure:. However, this is what I'm finding on the web:

    TUNDRA STOCK WHEELS:
    2003-2006:
    • 16" wheels - Width: 7", Offset: +15mm, Backspacing: 4.5", Hub Bore Diameter = 106mm
    • 17" wheels - Width: 7.5", Offset: +18mm, Backspacing: 5", Hub Bore Diameter = 106mm

No worries at all, thanks for throwing out some suggestions! I imagine I'll just have to keep some kind of spacers unless I can find an alloy wheel that has the right offset/backspacing to compensate.

You could just buy a second gen then all these wheels will work! That's not a negative comment about first gens
