'clicking' noise when shifting into gear on initial start.

So I just purchased my first truck - 2010 Double Cab 4x4 V6 Automatic. This truck was head and shoulders above every single 'small' truck I drove (and I drove 'em all).

Anyway - every time I start the truck and move it into gear (R or D), I hear a clicking sound. This isn't when I shift, but slightly after the truck starts moving. It sounds EXACTLY like your power locks engaging, but it's a little bit softer (and the doors are still unlocked). I only notice it from the drivers side...

Any ideas what this could be? I'm fairly certain this is 'normal', but it drives me nuts not knowing what it is.

 

Thats normal. It is just the abs going thru a self test.

 

Jeff is spot on, absolutely normal....If my foot is on the brake I can feel a slight vibe in conjunction with the sound. Mine is especially prominent when I back out of the driveway and shift into "D".

 

its normal. mine has always done it. its either the abs or the tranny opening a valve or something. chris4x4 will know!

If you can hear that, your radio isn't on loud enough.

 

its the brakes, it only does it when you change directions right.... its the brake pads shifting, its normal. thats why it only does it once in the same direction, pads shifting when you hit the brakes.

I am getting a similar sound too and want to see if it is the same thing. When I put my truck into drive (either directly or after putting it in reverse) I hear a faint click coming from inside the steering wheel. It only occurs when the truck hasn't been started in a while. Is this from the same cause?
