No not that far up the main road. Turned off onto what might have been a spur road and he was about a mile up that. Just hooked a snatch block up to a tree and ran my winch to his trailer hitch, pulled the rear end over back on to the road and backed down.

A combination of a really poorly picked line (would have been just fine in the 4Runner) and not realizing how top heavy the damn GX is (would have been fine in the 4Runner) had me looking out the passenger window and seeing the ground.

Essentially tried to navigate a washout and the edge I was trying to hug gave out, sliding me down into the wash. It probably felt worse than it was, but I was tipping enough to realize how damn heavy my driver door is. I was too scared to take a picture, but maybe someone else did.

Cam backed me up, I turned on the locker like a pussy, and chose a better line.

All of this like 100 yards from the beginning of the trail.

So yeah, even badasses like myself make mistakes sometimes :p

Now my pointer is curled up at the foot of my sleeping bag and I'm going to sleep.

Sounds like the night I found that white gx. He wasn't able to back out of it tho. :)

Yeah dude, there's going to be a real learning curve with this thing. My 4Runner was lower, wider, and a LOT more weight placed lower on the body via those huge steel skids and bumpers.

    I'll figure it out.

And take the rest of the preload out of the coilovers, and find a shorter spring for the rear.

Least you took a break from it! Ive definitely found it works way better to step away when things arent going smoothly and come back to it. Ive struggled for hours before, took a break, then come out and had it done in 10 minutes once I wasnt frustrated anymore

I hate that... sometimes it goes so easy and sometimes it's a serious bitch. I feel like it's really a 2 person job. Because if somebody can just hold the base of the CV in the diff up and square while you hammer it goes right in. It's hard to keep it from sagging down and hammer at the same time.

Yeah I noticed the plates. Yet it's listed here in WA... Says to call but no contact number included. Probably a scam. I'd give both nuts for that truck. I couldn't afford kids with it anyways so NBD.

You probably nailed it. I took the night off. Got up, made myself feel better by getting the wheel bearings installed on both sides. Now I've got the right CV axle off. Compared it to the one I removed as a sanity check. Came inside, looked at TW and now I'm headed out to reinstall the seal and give the CV another shot!

If you would have asked for help yesterday, I could have driven up. But, the wife and kids got home last night... and now I am back to being a home-body...

Did you not air down? Tip #1 for the snow is to always let a lot of air out of the tires.

Thanks for the suggestion! Went out there yesterday to get my feet wet with off-roading.

Damn! Sucks for me. I made sure the seal looked good, used a ratchet strap to move the sway bar out of the way. Rigged the CV on a jack stand and a shampoo bottle to keep it straight lol. Gave it some knocks on the end with a sledge hammer and no bueno. Kind of contemplating towing it instead of driving it to the shop on Tuesday so they can install the CV as well. I do have a bloody knuckle to show for my effort :)
