I have a project in mind. I currently drive an 08 Double Cab. I love it, but I would love a Regular Cab even more.
    This is my Taco:

What I would like to do is build the same exact truck, but in a Reg Cab. I don't think the 2.7L 4cyl can handle this setup.

Has anyone every swapped a 4.0L into a Reg Cab 4x4?

I think a reg cab that high will look stupid. Just my opinion.

well I have done this before with a Honda Civic, and then later added a supercharger and other goodies. With the Tacoma, I doubt the engine bays are that much different. My only concern would be connecting the drivetrain. I would tackle this myself over a summer.

Where I live, insurance "write off" taco's are easy to find. Right now there are two I can get. One auto and one 6 speed.

I was hoping to find someone Who has some knowledge of this swap.....

well why don't you keep the DC and buy a reg. cab then have the best of both worlds BTW that DC looks sick.

My issue is also that the DC doesn't fit in my Garage! So a Reg Cab would be nice. I am not a fan of the Access Cab, but it would fit nicely in my garage.

I'd do both if I had lots of money!

Putting the 4.0 in would be cheaper me thinks. And the option to put more power via a charger in the future would be even better. And the 2.7 with a 6" and 35"s? eehh.

    twin charge. ftw. lol

but the 2TR with the supercharger WOULD be lighter than the 1GR. the only thing though is im pretty sure the swap wouldn't be too bad...plus there are ALOT more parts for the 1GR than the 2TR...

the swap would be a lot of work not to mention custom driveshaft, ok nvm thats like it besides motor mounts and computer work and everything else....

Depends of you start swapping the rear axle and front diff to change the gear ratios...because keep in mind it will be setup for the 2.7, which is a 4.10 and that would seem to be really tall for a 4.0
