Your entitled to your opinion but I whole heartedly disagree with you about Toyota not caring. I've seen Toyota pay warranty claims way outside the expiration period if they felt the part shouldn't have failed.
This is the same company that was partnering with GM when they were making the Matrix/Vive twins and GM filed for bankruptcy cut ties and left their people with no job or unemployment. Toyota picked up the tab and paid them for another 3 months and offered retraining. Toyota cares very much and is very proud of their products. Other than Lexus there's not a more reliable brand and I have the documentation to prove it. Maybe your problem is more with your dealership.

I sure hope you are right. My experience until now has not been stellar with Toyota corporate, and they are misleading people with the rear end and transmission problems.

Though, I do own a third gen and I don't plan on replacing it for 10 years or until it costs more than it's worth.

Hang on just a minute this guy is a TOYOTA SALESPERSON and he is just pushing his product. I would not take anything he says with more than a grain of salt.

My 2017 Tacoma has been a total disaster and I wish, if I was not stuck in this truck underwater that I would get rid of it. I have been to the dealer so many times with issues and they just did not get this truck right. Toyota failed on this generation in my opinion@!

Believe me, nobody is misleading you. If you want answers talk to your service manager and he can set you up with a regional service tech to discuss what issues you might be having. The Toyota regional service tech people are the best of the best.

If you can live with the tranny, you'll love the truck.

So drive it, drive it again and then drive it one more time for good measure. Drive it up a hill and down a hill. Drive it merging on the highway and in town at stoplights.

Then do what YOU want and call it a day.

I did this. The regional field tech didn't understand the problem, and after Toyota looked at the evidence, they changed out my transmission. I had a 3-4th gear shift flare. The new transmission started shift flaring after 2 days. Toyota gave me an extended warranty and stated this was characteristic of the truck. I needed to be sure I heard correctly, so I requeried, and they verified it is characteristic for my transmission to flare up to 1000 rpms. I am sorry, but With all due respect to you, I was mis-led.

I have had nothing but a great experience with my 3rd gen. I also have a manual and don't have to worry about the tranny issues. That's always an option.

Is the shift flare constant or just occasional. I can't imagine it happening all the time if your planning on holding onto for 10 years. You mentioned something about a defect in the valve body but I'd bet it has more to do with the torque converter and how it functions.

The shift flare happens every time I drive the truck after it sits for over 3 hours. The valve body ingests a bubble when the WS fluid contracts (it is easier for this valve body to pull air through a poorly fit component then from the pan). This bubble causes a slow apply of the 4th gear clutch resulting in a flare. The Aisin engineers are aware of the issue. Toyota is trying to keep the problem quiet.

agree with this, not sure if it's been mentioned here yet but the MT's are great and my own is as fun and solid a ride as I've had in any vehicle. I'm about 8500 miles and have been problem free from the start. no howling, leaking, whistling, bucking, or any of that. i see some issues here and since these issues are so recent, and now since many potentially affected trucks are around, you'd want to be wise where and how you buy. but i think if you do, you'll be really happy with the truck. i faced the same concern but now know it was the right choice.

The 2017 Off Road model doesn't have a differential leak problem and is not on the recall list. The transmission will learn as you drive. If you drive like an old lady, then it probably won't change much. I drive mine like I'm on the show to a fire and I can already feel a difference in the shifting. It's just takes a little to get used too. I hate having to say that but it's true. It does shift differently than other vehicles I've driven. But it's not a deal killer. And if Toyota feels it's an issue as time goes on, they will do a recall and change it. Toyotas last forever. If you're concerned, tell the salesmen you want to test drive it more than just a mile or two. I'll think you'll find any issue listed, are not all that big of a deal. Enjoy whatever you end up with.

Agreed. There is certainly something wrong with these rear ends. It may just be a setup issue, but there is something wrong.

Where have you read any issues with the 2017 OR having differential issues? I've seen people with all other models say there's an issue but I haven't seen any about the 17 OR. I could be mistaken but I've read hundreds of posts since joining. If I'm in error, I apologize.
