I had 2 gnarly days of rain in the tepui this weekend and it held up really well and stayed dry. I unfortunately had to pack it up soaking wet, so she got wiped down and aired out yesterday. I've spent about 40 nights in it so far and it is holding up really well. Loving all the great ideas on this thread - it's like Pinterest for wheelers..

I made an awning. It's on the side here but it goes on the back too. I'm stoked to use it for camping. It packs up and deploys easily with the legs attached, and it looks clean and rides nice at 75mph. I bought everything to make it at the hardware store for about $60.IMG_3419.jpg IMG_3418.jpg

So it looks like you just have it mounted to the cab and not to the topper. Pretty stable? Might do something like this. Softopper problems LOL

Mounted to the rack on the aluminum cap actually, those d rings hook around the vertical bars and the bungee cords hold it on when up and the tension of using bungees as guy lines keeps it in place when deployed. It travels on the side but switches to the back with a differently spaced set of d rings that align with the vertical bars on the back of the rack, this is its intended use to shelter the tailgate area from rain for truck bed platform livin'.

Yours seems sturdy by the topper even though it's presumably cab rack mounted, what is it made of, conduit?

Yep. Its just mounted to the roof rack cross bars. I hate not having a bed rack, it would have been MUCH simpler to build.

Its made outta a 10' piece of 13/16" Unistrut. Its cut in half and I added a hinge to the 2 pieces so it folds in half to make easier to store.

Heres some in progress pictures from last week. Im still tweaking the hinge system a little bit more so it folds flat. I should have it figured out tomorrow.

    Thanks.

    Utah last week.

I'm pretty happy with everything I have setup. Only thing that slightly worries me is cooking on my tailgate isn't going to work in bear country. I'm going to have to get a table instead.

We went for a quick overnight at a local lake.

Rain all night, awoke to a beautiful, slightly cool morning.

    And cooked a great breakfast!

After the leisurely morning, we headed to range to sight in a couple of rifles.

All in all, a great weekend!
