What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

1.5 is the ideal though, so says all the tuning things I've read at least. Also my meter has a separate tick mark just for 1.5

 

Just change the oil, tried out some 0W-40 this time around.

 

No not even close close lol. Closer to where the stock mounts were ish.

 

Serious? I thought 1.5 was almoat perfect so is topped there lol. Maybe I can get it lower. Ill have to mess with it a tadd more

It's not really about the length (que @Madjik_Man ), it's more about the location and the chassis ground. The hood location give you a decent ground plane to work with. Roof is the best but hood is a reasonable compromise.

Marc @SconnieHailer is running a 2 footer as well and has made his work very well as I recall.

 

What about 33's with 4.56? I know the speedo is off when going to larger tire sizes, n was wondering what the gearing was gonna do to that. Am about 100 miles in the break in too...n seems like it's reading faster

 

I figured as much, I have proper ground strap weaving and such. I'll save the roof for the ham.

 

Nothing wrong with 1.5. Mine has run that way for about 5 years now.

 

What trans do you have? Auto or manual? Larger tires make the speedo read low. Regearing will make the speedo read very high.

IMO, 4.88s with my auto and 33s is perfect. But if you've already regeared, its a moot point.

 

No not really. But the difference between 1.5 and 1.7 is pretty big.

We've gotten our Hams to 1.2 as well other then a few of the odd ball antennas i'm running to 1.4.

4.56s will not be back to stock. But it will be pretty damn close to dead on. Check with a GPS as the stock speedo reads about 5% low to begin with.

 

Yeah I shoulda done the 4.88, too late now...but was thinking it might even out the loss with tire size n gain w gearing? But

Anyone good at CB wiring and tuning? I have my Midland CB hooked up and sometimes it works (I can hear clear conversations sometimes, rarely though) but most of the time nothing.

I have a super high SWR reading (above 4) so I'm guessing there's a fault in my antenna.

I thought it was an improper ground, so I added a grounding strap. Didn't do anything.

I'm guessing I assembled the antenna stud wrong. Any ideas?

 

sounds like your antenna isn't tuned if you have an SWR above 4. Needs to be adjusted. What kind of antenna?

 

To me it sounds like a grounding issue. Do you have close up pic of the way the antenna is attached to the hood mount? One that shows the various components of the antenna base the spacers and the coax cable attachment.

Do not keep broadcasting at an SWR of 4. It will burn out the finals in the radio, if it hasn't already.

 

Needs to be put on like so depending on connection type.

 

Let me get some pics for you. I have a strong suspicion it's the antenna mounting since I didn't use the included hardware with the antenna, the washers and lock washer they provided didn't fit the antenna right so I went out and bought some washers that fit.
