Today is the annual Peace Officer Memorial run. Starts at CHP Academy and ends at the State Capitol. Very sad

I've never thought about it before, but now that you've posted it.. I'd have never guessed they've been around since 1929, that's awesome. Agree with your post, though I don't think Jason was complaining about the sentiment, just the traffic closures.

The CHP is a special group of officers, and for at least a decade has had the highest amount of officer suicides than any other law enforcement groups in the entire US. I think NorCal is pretty pro LEO, anyway, but I always make sure I thank any officers I come into contact with and wish them a safe watch.

CHP, for all of their face value annoyances for us as drivers, have a tough gig even in the LEO community.

My friend Mike was the officer who was run over on I80 a year or so ago. He's just now returning to light duty and may be able to return to riding motors.
It's a tough gig working in an environment that's already dangerous (the highways) doing a job with its own set of dangers. So, you're right, tough gig.

 

Screw it brotha. I stood for the entire convoy as a show of respect as they drove out of the academy. Its only one day.
