Yep, it was the only way to do it. I could bolt in the rear, and leave them loose, but then the front was off by 1/4" or so. After all the stuff I dealt with, the skid holes not lining up sucked.

Ice didn't last any longer then the Igloo cooler that also was holding beverages for everyone.

I don't recall size but it will barely fit in passenger seat foot-well if you push the seat all the way back

I did notice that when reading the Pelican description it says "does not retain ice longer." While the Yeti's and the Cabela's have a rubber seal which keeps everything colder. Does the RTIC you have close like an Igloo with no rubber seal?

There is a rubber seal but no difference between igloo & my RTIC regarding beer temp.

its all about the type of ice you use. If you use larger blocks it lasts longer than cubes which lasts longer than the amazing crushed stuff at restaurants. I have put a block in and put drinks in as they got removed and everything was ice cold for 5 days.

Again, I said I was disappointed and here are facts:
    • Beer and ice came from exact same source and simultaneous loaded into coolers.
    • Neither was opened until following evening and
    • results were pretty much the same (no thermometer was used to judge) all ice had melted.
    • It was assumed that the RTIC stored Beverages would be "cooler".
Maybe that area of the Arkansas river/ Texas Creek is the Bermuda triangle of RTIC coolers but no advantage was found in this pure use test with zero scientific measurement.

Thus, my disappointment comment was made.

My RTIC 65 works great. Just received a rtic 20 and using a flashlight you can see the light shining through the side of the cooler. Big cooler you can't see the light but it also has thicker walls than the little cooler.

The light coming through will causing heating issues, this is a good thing to check. I've never heard anyone mention this before.

A commen problem with them is the actual hinge breaking. So the owner made some out of steel to replace the aluminum ones.

Their torsion rod obviously failed. I've never owned a Flippac but I suspect deleting the torsion rod in lieu of plain pivots will make it slam open and closed.

Sway-A-Way is making replacement torsion rods for them so it could probably be returned to original if you could find or remake the original hinge brackets.

On the good side it doesn't look like the worst solution, seems well made and beefy enough in concept. Could do with with some better fiberglass work.

I have owned several WilderNests and without the springs (they have a pair of springs inside that like to break) you have to really watch your fingers when closing it. It's not a show stopper but there is a reason for the lid springs on these campers.
