I went by today and crawled under the truck and saw where the diff was seeping on both sides. Seems the OTD price is $31K. If I could find a TRD OR 4x4 AC new I would go for it. Can't find one. I would love to have a manual tranny too but I know that's pie in the sky. Looked at dozens of dealer sites and have not seen 1 manual tranny in 4x4.

Well, my shortlist of vehicles that I am going to choose to purchase my next vehicle from contains a Jeep Wrangler.

I've already resigned myself to purchase the Lifetime Powertrain if I get the Wrangler because:

    1. It's a Chrysler product

    2. It's an amalgamation of Chrysler and Fiat products

    and

    3. Chrysler's well deserved reputation for reliability combined with Fiat's well deserved reputation for reliability = the warranty will pay for itself after the first 2 transmissions have been replaced.

Dagnabbit! After reading that I'm now thinking of taking the Wrangler off my list (again) o_O

o_O LOL! At least you're prepared for the inevitable! Seriously though, I won't bash on any manufacturer in particular because they all have their issues. I will say that I have never and will not in the foreseeable future purchase an american passenger vehicle. American cars have gone in the crapper IMHO. Trucks aren't bad but way overpriced as far as I'm concerned.

If you're still talking about the same truck as in your original post, that's a hard sell. I didn't see where you are posted anywhere, but I'm assuming CA or Southwest somewhere? If you're willing to spend that kind of money, it may be worth getting exactly what you want and finding it at a dealer across the country. Shipping a vehicle isn't that expensive and I'm sure you could save the cost of shipping on the bottom line.

I have been a member of this forum for more than two years. That is the reason that I have a hard time taking people like you seriously. People were shitting on the 3rd gen Tacoma before anyone even had a chance to drive one.

You have been watching this generation for over a year and you still bought a "terrible" truck!?!?

I traded in my allegedly superior 2nd gen '15 Tacoma for my '17 TRD Sport and I couldn't be happier. Guess I am just lucky.

Yes I guess you are lucky. I see a TON of problems here with the third gen so I know I am not alone.

Say cap’n, I think you're seeing a ton of problems here with the 3rd Gen because you’re looking in the wrong place.

Looking here is like going to a hospital and asking why there are so many sick ppl. And no, you’re not alone, there’s another fellow here besides you.

Most problems mentioned here are easy fix, not game changers, we can work it out like the others before you.

    Cheers!

Drop the extra money down and buy new. You won't be second guessing if you got a lemon or not. You'll know it already. Just kidding. I love my truck except for the crappy shifting.

Yes, buying any vehicle is a terrible experience. It is because of the severely flawed business model that has not changed in decades. There's nothing you can do about it except understand how the system works and take advantage of that knowledge. It's all a game and you just need to know how to play well enough to keep up. The dealer will always have the upper hand, but you can limit the size of the pot they can win.

In transit is better than waiting for build. If you don't need the truck RIGHT NOW and it is actually in transit I wouldn't worry about it. See if the dealer can give you an estimate of the delivery date.
Work your deal and put your name on it if you are sure that's what you want. I think that is a smarter move than buying the used one you were looking at.

I haven't been following the forums until recently when I decided to look at a new truck. The complaints are much the same as they were for the 2nd gen, but none are catastrophic. Yeah, it would have been good if Toyota fixed them, but I don't consider them to be make or break. I love my '14 Tacoma and that is why I'm buying a '17. It also seems that a lot of the complaints with the engine/trans problems could be solved with the MT. There were similar complaints with the 2nd gen, although not as loud. My V6/6MT has been fantastic and I expect the new one to be just as good.

I won't be as good as your old one, sad to say, but...
It better be much better, judging by many who made the switch from 2nd to 3rd gear and are glad they did.

    Best of luck!
    Cheers!
